So Duran steps up in weight and fight two fighters who are probably top 3 all time at Welterweight, and beats one, and admittedly gets starched by the other. He then faces a top 3 ATG at Middleweight in Hagler and gives him a close fight. That's 25lbs above his best weight, and yet no credit for that? The guy fought in the best boxing era in history, completely dominated at his own weight, and was recognised as P4P number 1, moves up and fights some of the best boxers in history at Welter and Middle, and you still think he deserves no props??!! He didn't move up a fight paper champions as the multi weight champions of the modern era, he fought allcomers, and I guess that's why he is one of the ultimate boxing icons of the last century, if not all time.

Like I said, I wouldn't favor any other 135lb fighter in History to move up and beat a prime Leonard. Do I have to say it again?

How can Duran be taken serious? He could not even beat a bum like Hagler and those he beat were shot fighters like Leonard, Benetiz, Cuevas etc. A has been like Hearns exposed him.

I disregard Duran's win over Leonard because he outweighed Sugar by about 100lb. I hate it when Big fighters pick on smaller ones.

i agree. It was also unfair how they let Duran use a moustache or a beard to put Sugar Ray at a disadvantage. They had to change Ray's diapers every 3min because Roberto looked so scary.

I wouldn't favor Duran to do it either. We saw the rematch whe Leonard fought his normal fight. Take nothing away from his first win against Leonard, because it was definitely a great, career defining win. I just don't think that was the best form of Leonard that he did it against. Also... that one match-up doesn't vault Duran above everyone else. Duran wasn't naturall a lightweight anymore. He had been fighting at Welterweight or higher for 2 years before he fought Leonard. Not only that... but he had been weighing in for fights over the lightweight limit for about 9 years prior to that fight.

Duran's wins at lightweight weren't exactly the most staggering wins either. The best fighter that he faced at that weight also beat him.

I liked Duran as a fighter, and I recognize him as a great fighter. However, he is really overrated by a lot of people.

Duran never beat Benetiz, Benetiz beat Duran.:good You are not really bragging him up over his win over the very average Cuevas, are you?

Duran is Duran, enough said. But he fought to be the best, wasn`t always about the money. He fought with intensity, pride and to totally dominate anyone out there who thought they belonged in the same ring as him. PBF could carry his spit bucket, maybe...

yea, he only beat a bigger, faster, stronger, younger undefeated welter in his prime and beat a more than avg fighter in davey moore who ko'd benitez in one or 2 rounds. plus he also beat the man who twice beat hearns. i'm pretty sure the whole boxing world agrees with you that hagler, leonard, benitez, hearns, and cuevas were all hobo legends and bums. i'm pretty sure Duran in his prime wouldn't even make it in the trailerpark series or bumfights. :patsch

Sorry man. I would be able to take all your points on board under normal circumstances. It's just the same guy who is telling me Duran is overrated, his wins at Lightweight weren't great, and he lost to everybody above 135, has Wlad in their avatar and is a self-confessed fan of his. It just doesn't sound right. I don't know.
