Two Durans...you just didn't know which one would show up. Should have stayed down in the LtW, JrWelter, and Welterwt range.
It would seem he checked out after beating Leonard. He was never in particularly, visibly great shape after that. Perhaps Cuevas, a fight he had to win to save his career as a legitimate prizefighter. Moore and Barkley weren't great, but considering all circumstances were absolutely phenomenal, dramatic wins. Extra sauce as Barkley was coming off a KO of Hearns. He won those fights because he's ****ing Roberto Duran and he was too great not to win once he got in rhythm, heat-of-the-moment. Didn't matter how many years and weight classes out of his prime he was. For all of the views, this thread deserves some replies.
I watch this again & again, the sound track to the 1st one is incredible juxtaposed to watching the master at his work. For me Duran is the GOAT when every aspect of his career is taken into account. They'll never be another like him, who else can pack the streets of yer home town & have hoards besiege the airport awaiting yer arrival. He was violent poetry in motion. His fluidity of movement is something to behold. The quality of the film is exceptional, especially the Dejesus III. He is the one & only original PHOENIX of boxing who imposed self-inflicted humiliation upon himself just when he had reached the summit of boxings Mt Olympus where he stood above all others. Then cast himself down into the depths only too rise again to even greater glories. What other former lightweight champion has ever challenged & near on beat the Mighty Hagler when other feint hearts fled. I've just watched the Barkley fight again & it's a breathtaking, incredible acheivment that defies logic & the laws of boxing. But as a previous poster said. ONLY ROBERTO DURAN:deal DURAN the GREAT:deal
I Blast this **** at least once a week. The Electricity in the atmosphere is simply ridiculous: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM9ivIVyhEE&feature=youtube_gdata_player"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM9ivIVyhEE&feature=youtube_gdata_player[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRiURENunq4&feature=youtube_gdata_player"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRiURENunq4&feature=youtube_gdata_player[/ame] At times I feel kind of sick for getting such joy out of this. It went on for far too long... but that's the game. Then.
Well put together tribute of a great fighter. I love it. Although, the clip of Duran in the green speedo in the first video.... kinda caught me off guard there.:yep
Oh ****in YESSSSSS:yep It's 3am & i'am totally charged That atmosphere is the nearest you'll get stateside to a UK soccer crowd atmosphere, total bedlam, Only Duran could generate that euphoric atmosphere, i was on welfare at the time with 2 babes to feed & i lumped on my 2week welfare cheque on Roberto at 4/1. I'am not a gambler, was dumping myself, could'nt sleep a wink, raced down to the newsagents at 6.30am & tore through the dailys for news, could'nt afford to buy one, nothing doing till i got to the last rag called the "Daily Express" & there it was!!! 3 pages in, DURANS BACK!!! With a "CRASH" BANG" WALLOP" I felt like Moses being handed the 10 commandments from god. I went ****in nuts, tore the page out of the Daily Express, told the owner too **** off & legged it home. I never told the missis i'd lumped it all on at the bookies. Man i felt like the richest & happyist man in the whole wide ****in world. It felt great to be alive & i was foaming at the mouth for the next saturday to arrive so i could see the fight on ITV at 2.30pm as we always got the big fights shown on delayed free TV back then. I had to get a lock-in at a working mens club i was a member of as my TV was ****ed, I did'nt blink once whilst watching it, i told some ****ers around me who were yapping about horse racing too shut-it or i'd beat them so bad they'd beg me for death, i was in a total zone of compressed euphoric crazed ecstasy waiting to explode, i wanted a trumpet like the geezar blowing it that night in the crowd, i felt reborn just like Roberto, my kids think i'am nuts, they just don't get it
One of the most entertaining, two-paragraph boxing related tales I've read or heard. :good Duran has one of the most crazed, rabid fan bases of any fighter who's ever done it. It takes a special athlete to draw people in the way he has. That night at MSG is one of the 'head-for-head' giants of boxing events where atmosphere is concerned. Unless I'm mistaken, Michael Buffer said that was the first MSG sellout since Ali-Frazier I.
Glad everyone likes my video and loved reading your comments Duranimal i could visualise what you were saying any other vids in mind let me know
