Roberto Duran from the Montreal bout vs Donald The Cobra Curry, 15 rounds, at 147 lbs. The Duran who defeated Sugar Ray Leonard in Montreal vs a prime Curry at welterweight. Let's hear some comments on this fantasy fight.

See Curry getting wrecked by Lloyd Honyghan for my opinion.
The only difference would be ANY version of Curry gets hammered
that way by Duran from the Montreal fight, not just the weight
drained, not focused version that fought Honyghan.

I put the Duran that fought against Leonard in Montreal up against just about anybody in that weight class--his conditioning and performance were otherworldly that night!!!

I love Donald Curry. I feel he is so unappreciated today and is only remembered from the Honeyghan fight rather than his peak. Having said that, the Duran from Montreal was a force of nature and few, if any, are getting by him. I would go with Duran on a late stoppage.

I think Duran stops him, he'd be one irresistible force, slipping a lot of curry's punches. Getting inside and gradually wearing his man down.
This would be the welter version of Tyson v Biggs!!

I just want to point out that Donald Curry was an excellent infighter…he was much better on the inside than Sugar Ray Leonard

I did notice in his fight against Marlon Starling he did get tagged quite a bit.

Even though Wilfred Benitez head movement was very special, sometimes he could get lazy in the ring and if tagged he could taste the canvas.

The Curry who was was seen as a force back in 1985 against Roberto Duran that beat Sugar Ray Leonard would have been a very interesting match up, especially if we're talking about both fighters at their best. Curry was very fundamentally sound with sharp punches and tight defense who could also fight inside as well. Only problem was that his chin wasn't the best and didn't always have the heart dig deep in tough fights. As good of a talent as Curry was I don't think he would have been able to handle someone as versatile, smart, fierce, and strong like Duran. Duran had far too many tools in his arsenal, was much tougher and more well rounded.

    Duran by late stoppage.

I definitely think the Duran of Montreal could have beaten Benitez at 147. That night he was incredible--as great a performance as I've seen in the sport!! Not just the performance in the ring itself but Duran's conditioning--he was just COMPLETELY honed in on all levels!! As I stated earlier--I'd match him with anyone at 147 on that night!!
