"Roberto Duran-Hector Camacho" of 1996. Was the bogus dec. in the bag for Camacho??

    Folks,

    I still get pissed every time I review my 1996 tape of "Duran-Camacho" on PPV...... Duran did start slowly, but by round 3 he was heating up, while the younger Camacho looked to be dragging along, yet very game... Camacho for a vato only age 34 was NOT very impressive weighing the full 160 pounds, meanwhile, Duran at 157 pounds was very spry, aggressive and accurate with his shots after his motor warmed-up... WTF were the crooked judges thinking??? I know, it was future money to be made with a fresh fight, instead of making a fight like "Duran-Leonard 4." A fight like "Leonard-Camacho 1" was what the fans wanted to see in 1997, thus, the judges robbed Duran and gave Camacho a nice gift.... Total Bull****......

    I thought it was pretty close and could've gone either way. I gave the edge to Roberto, though not sure how unbiased I was at the time, but Camacho won a lot of rounds. I don't think it was a robbery.

    I think the judges thought that Camacho was more marketable than an old Duran so they judged by what they thought was best for the future. I can think of a number of t judges who have judged wrongly that way. Holmes-Witherspoon, Spinks-Holmes II, Nelson-Fenech I amd Toney-Tiberi come to mind.

    This **** happens sometimes to a once great who dosen't know when to hang 'em up. No one knows when to pack it in..and as in Duran's case, and all of them really, they end up prostituting their legacies against guys who they would have beaten in years past. And I'm sure the pathetic excuse for Duran was that he spent away all his earnings and he didn't know any other way to make a living.

    Can imagine how awful it would have been for Leonard to be outlasted and beaten by an ancient Roberto Duran in a 4th fight.

    I do think the judges were swayed by presenting a 1997 comeback fight for SRL to meet Camacho on PPV.... That notion was better than Ray and Roberto doing a 4th fight that no doubt would've stunk like a rancid fart in a locker-room.... Still, all in all, I that Duran edged Camacho fair and square in 1996...... now, later in 2001, no, Duran at age 50 was just too slow, but was still ruff and tuff enough to trouble the still spry 39 year old Camacho....

    That decision made me holler. I went out and attacked a Puerto Rican and the first three middle-aged white guys in suits I saw. Duran won that damn fight and it was a helluva damn win, too.
