This is a tough call for me, especially since these guys are in my top 5.

Gotta go with Louis though. Louis never or rarely faltered in his challenges, whereas Duran got distracted by fame and glory, and of course, "no mas".

 

The Max Schmeling rematch was ****ing huge.

It was a historical event, consider the pressure on both of them to win given the political situation of the time. Schmeling may not be an ATG on the level of Leonard, but he is an underrated fighter and still places very highly on ATG heavyweight lists.

EDIT: Wait, are you saying that Duran over Leonard is the greatest victory in the sport of boxing? And bashing that guy just because he's throwing Langford v. Gans as a superior victory? Come on now

 

What weight could Louis move up to?

 

Beating Max Schmeling is somehow comparable to beating prime Leonard at 147lbs. Comb your beard. :bart

Roberto Duran, quite clearly IMO. Duran is my #6, and I'd estimate Louis would be somewhere around about #15.

 

I would also be fascinated to hear 20 wins better than that one. Fascinated.

 

I hope he doesn't bring up Louis/Schmeling II.

 

If he does, he should stand trial at Nuremberg for war crimes.

 

Well, if you wanna hear an expert opinion on this the IBRO had Louis ranked at #5 on their ATG best fighters, Duran was at 7. Leonard was at 13.

 

Referencing other people's or authorities lists is always a sign of desperation and has no relevance to this discussion the way I see it, Swarmer.
