no.2 on my all-time list (post-war) but for very good reason.

Although I too am miffed at the author calling Laign a 'journeymen', but that is no worse than you calling Duran 'overrated'. Both are pitiful statements form supposedly well-read boxing fans.

It's true that Duran wanted no part of a rematch with Buchanan, he said so himself. He's not over-rated though.

Those who don't recognize Duran as one of the best ever to lace up the gloves needs to change sports viewing and watch the WWE.:nut

I would say he ranks first, with only Leonard holding any argument for ranking higher.

Dumb ass thread. Stop reading stupid articles and go watch actual fights of a fighter before making an ass of yourself.

Thats a mismatch....Paulie would have Duran quitting by the end of the first round.

Well we know that, but would a certified RD nuthugger like Duranimal admit to it?

Buchanan was giving a decent account of himself, despite being punched low on several occasions.
The fight was actually stopped because KB was unable to continue due to serious damage to his right testicle.

Iran Barkley, who had, by the time he fought Duran, engaged in numerous wars, was a 'kill or be killed' fighter, with a porous defence and was severely hampered by serious eye problems.

Neither of these 'victories' elevate Duran to the lofty heights of legendary status that most posters here are convinced of.

The voice of dissent is not, i repeat NOT backing down

Good on you Lionel, challenging "accepted truths" is often a worthwhile pursuit

There was ****-all wrong with Buchanan, he tried 2 ***** steal the fight as he knew he was ****ed, talk about drama, he outdid the ballerina in swan lake with his dying swan act, the ref stanley christalodo really in effect disquailfied Buchanan 4 his theatrics as he said he was wearing a foul proof protector & in his opinion was able 2 continue but quit screaming foul foul, strange as straight after he was up on his feet wanting 2 fight on.

If he had'nt shown such distain towards Duran & underestimated him he proberbly would have won as he was the superier boxer & Duran just a young 21yr old rough & ready scrapper.

How many times have you ever seen such drama from a low blow, buchanan has become the scottish version ov Henry Cooper who never stop whining about losing 2 Joe Bugner, the diff here is Cooper made a shed load ov sympathey £££££££ out ov it over the years & all Buchanan does is put all his troubles down 2 Duran not giving him a rematch, he blew it by a bad case ov over reacting 2 a tap below the belt which was no were near his nuts:good you mug.

    In the 80s, yeah.

But he was the fighter of the 70s, or 2nd behind Monzon.
