So you'll be at the cowboys for the pac/margo tear-up, thinking of going myself:smoke
Duran looked rather unimpressive in his fights in between the Palomino and Leonard fights. He may have been more raw at 135 but atleast he was consistently in shape.
ok, what are Duran's best fights, where he was at the top of his game? anyone give me a list? ive seen quite a lot of duran, but theres no many fights of his, i want to see him really at his best, so what are his best fights?
His best is a really really relative term. He had very impressive fights throughout his career. I think possibly his best overall combination of youth, power, and skill might be DeJesus III. Leonard I and Palomino are also pretty superb fights. He's not quite the spring chicken in those but still dangerous and the skills speak for themselves.
I just watched Duran/Buchanan yesterday. I do not think Duran had entered his peak years yet. I thought it was pretty clear that a 135 pound Arguello would have knocked that version of Duran silly. However, in the long run, Duran proved to be better at that weight than Arguello. I agree with those who said 1974-1980.
Difficult to imagine Arguello knocking any version of Duran silly.More likely that Duran against Alexis would end up a bit like the Pryor fights, with Duran getting hit less but maybe put down once or twice.
I think this period was the epitome of what I've said in the past (along with others) about Duran being a passion fighter. His performance suffered greatly when he lacked the fire in the belly to really prove himself. I don't see how it's really even arguable if you've watched Duran during this time. He looked **** against lesser contenders (who didn't even have the benefit of the supposed styles advantage most bring up with Duran's opponents post-Leonard like Laing), while looking utterly phenomenal when taking on the likes of Palomino and Leonard. Not to be corny, but I could tell from Duran's eyes whether or not he was feeling it on the night.
We're talking 1972, and a 21 year old 132 pound Duran versus Arguello pretty near his peak. At 1 minute 8 seconds of this video Alexis closes the show. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ATi4LZM9O4[/ame]
