I find it amusing when people say Duran's overrated or make out he was some crude brawler. Duran is without question technically better than Foyd Mayweather. Durans all round skill was greater. Duran was more skilled on the inside, just as skilled on the outside and he integrated his defence with his offence with a fluidity and explosiveness you never see from Floyd. His fluidity between defence and offence could well be the best of all time. He had better upper body movement, better punch variation and his faints variation was outstanding. Duran was a very clever technical pressure fighter with an amazing ability to roll, block and parry punches and still be in his opponents face set in position to throw leather back with speed power and accuracy. Floyd has some athletic attributes better than Duran but Duran is without doubt all round better than Floyd technically. Prime for prime he beats Floyd. Floyd looks good against these flat footed box punchers. He's never fought anybody as dynamic as Duran. The first De Jesus fight aside Duran only ever got beat by great fighters much bigger than him, he was also known for not training properly. Years past his prime he was still competing, going close with Hagler and beating monsters like Barkley. Duran was the ****.

Even as a Mayweather fan, I think he'd probably avoid them. He maybe would have had to fight Duran but other than that I think he'd have stayed at the lighter weights as long as he possibly could because I don't think he'd fancy it with Hearns or Leonard - you can forget about Hagler, Mayweather wouldn't go up to middleweight even today and as a former super featherweight he shouldn't be expected to. Maybe if he had taken a loss he wouldn't be as picky about opponents because he wouldn't be protecting that 0. One thing is for sure and that's the fact that Mayweather would not be the biggest name in the sport in that era, he wouldn't be calling the shots like he is now and this would force him to fight the fights the fans wanted to see to make his millions.

...of their generation, Shane said. :patsch

I swear, every time someone takes a quote out of context or promulgates a misinterpretation of one, they should be given a small remote electroshock blast to nodes surgically implanted on their brains.

Mayweather and pacman belong in the Fab Four class for sure.

The main difference between the eras though is Duran and Leonard actually fought each other while Floyd and Manny have robbed boxing fans of our generations equivalent. Shame.

He cerainly wouldn't. A prime Duran would be like something Floyd hasn't remotely fought.
Great offensively and for a go forward aggresive fighter great defensively, and hard as nails.
I love Floyd and he may, just may have been able to outpoint Duran, but I suspect he'd more likely have ended up wrecked.

My thoughts as well. As for the outcome it's pretty much one or the other, either Mayweather manages to avoid enough of Duran's punches to win by decision or he gets a brutal beat down, there really is no middle ground. I suspect the latter of the two would occur.

I'm not sure who of the two is technically better but I don't think any fighter in history was able to transition from defense into offense and vice versa as fluidly as Duran. Add to that a rock solid chin and hands of stone and you have a fighter who's going to give you relentless pressure for an entire fight. So unless you can box, move, and not get hit too often for a full 12 rounds you're not going to win. De Jesus III is a prime example of Duran at his best, as were the Moore/Barkley fights.

All I can say is imagine the Hatton fight , but this time the opponent hits hard as hell , has great head movement and brilliant boxing skills.

    Duran by TKO 10.
