Pryor is not overrated:nut. The fact that you say he was easy to hit is an insult to us boxing fans lol. Arguello fought a bigger man in Pryor and did well. Arguello was a great, great fighter. He imo was just not in Duran's class.

I have Alexis Arguello looking fit and ready to brawl in 1995 at age 42 against Scotty "Pink Cat" Walker............. Christ, Ol' Alexis fought like a ghost of his former self...... A.A. was so slow and ineffective it made me ill....... Walker won an easy decision..... Sad...........

Come 1996, J.C. Chavez smoked Walker on HBO inside of 2 rds..... Wicked.......

People seem to forget or have forgotten that Roberto Duran at 135 pounds was lean, mean, fast & fearless at that weight division....... Duran racked up 12 title defenses; 11 by KO!!

I'm sorry, but Alexis Arguello didn't do anything or beat anybody at 135 that Duran couldn't have handled.... Arguello beat and KO'd dudes at 135 like Jim Wyatt, Andy Ganigian & Raymond Mancini.... Not bad, but I aint exactly doin' hand stands, either........ Alexis Arguello was a great champion and fighter between 126 to 135 pounds, but Roberto Duran is still KING at 135 pounds............. Cheerio....

It took Duran a foul to get rid of Ken Buchanan (way ahead on the scorecards of course, but still)

You make it out as though Duran was completely invincible at 135. Wasn't he dropped by DeJusus? Go 14 rounds in a competitive fight before sparking Ray Lampkin?

Arguello had a great chin, and would have his moments as he preferred to fight swarmers. Duran was at his best at 135, he could swarm, he could fight, he could box, his movement and slipping was also second to none. He could take the best punch and hit you twice as hard, he was terrific.

He's no.2 on my all-time list. And I said YOU were overrated him, but I have my reasons for placing Duran behind only Ray Robinson.

But Arguello had a great chin, was very tall even for LW, had a long reach, and made up for his lack of footspeed and handspeed with great timing and an almost chess-like method to his work.

If Arguello was flatfooted and Duran came on to him to destroy, Arguello would have a Plan B. If Duran hurt Arguello, Alexis could find a way out.

Ultimately he'd never quite be able to find a way to not just survive but win and that would be his downfall. But you are seriously underrating Arguello and making Duran out to be invincible. Duran was fantastic, the best of all-time at that weight, but he was not invincible. Arguello wouldn't have been the man to beat him at 135, but he would not have been a pushover either.

As Duran was so unbelievable at LW, I guess he'd make quick work of Sweet Pea, Ike Williams, Henry Armstrong and Chavez too??? Not saying Arguello is up there at 135 (though he's definitely the top dog at 130 in my opinion) but if Duran was as great as you say no one could trouble him or even oppose him.

F.F.Sakes........ YES! We all know Roberto Duran had trouble with smooth boxers..... Edwin Viruet and Esteban DeJesus gave him some problems at 135 pounds... However, Duran came back and always found a way to win...... From 1967 to 1979, Roberto Duran was an animal in the ring and a great champion..... Roberto Duran didn't become human until 1980 at a weight of 145 to 147 pounds.... The fights with Ray Leonard showed the best and worst of Roberto Duran...... By 1980, Duran was becoming civilized and lazy... Serious weight gains and money issues with his management and the friggin' IRS would follow..... The 1980s were not as kind to Roberto Duran, but he still managed to win world titles at 154 and 160 pounds against New York brawlers "Moore & Barkley." Roberto Duran is definatley a top-10 ATG world champion for the ages.......... Peace...

Sorry but nobody called Duran invincible...you did. This is a size issue. Duran is the more natural fighter at that weight, and imo, and this is my opinion, Arguello would not be a match for Duran. Arguello did not have the arsenal to beat a Duran who could box and punch at 135.

Please don't menton the Buchanon fight. Buchanon quit, and everyone knew it. Ken gave it his best shot, and he lost. Duran also put Lampkins lights out in the 14 and said he wanted to keel him. We aren't matching the version of Duran who lost to Dejesus, or the Duran who went tough rounds with Lampkin. We are taking Arguello and Duran at their best. Arguello is no match for Duran at 135. Arguello was not at his best at 135. If you want to talk about losses, Arguello was ko'd early in his career which we won't count, but he was outboxed also by lesser men than Duran. If Duran had Arguello hurt, the fight is over.

Don't go from one extreme to the other. Arguello was a great fighter, but at 135 Duran would have applied much more effective pressure than Pryor did at 140. Certainly he would not make quick work of the solid chinned Arguello, but I could see Duran's effective pressure behind many slipped jabs and straight rights seriously taking its toll on AA by the 9th or tenth round, especially carrying 135 pounds.

Arguello's style is tailor made for a guy like Duran. This is not to knock Arguello, or to even discredit him. I'm not saying Arguello loses to just anyone...he loses to Duran, and it could happen early or late in the fight.

The explosvie thin man was as good as it gets, but you do see the pic in your avy...right? That is how Arguello would look if he fought a prime Duran at 135.

Christ, only a solid dude like Tommy Hearns at 154 pounds was ever able to lay out Roberto Duran like a bed sheet.... Later on, William Joppy would've done it at 160 pounds, but Joe Cortez stopped the massacre before the 147 year old Duran would get parked.... Thank Christ....

Alexis Arguello owned wicked and good power between 126 to 140 pounds, but not the type of power to KO Duran into dreamland........ Nobody under 140 pounds could KO Roberto Duran.......... Hell, Ray Leonard never was even able to drop Duran...... Duran's chin between 135 to 147 was pretty damn solid.............
