I would probably favor Duran to edge a close decision. I've gone back and forth on this fight for a while though.

I don't think Gavilan is as good as Leonard, so I will go with Duran by UD, but Gavilan would have a pretty good chance, if he could survive against SRR than he could against Duran.

Very close Gavilan did give Robinson some of his hardest fights at Welter but then again Ike Williams did beat him in the first of their trilogy. Duran at his absolute best (montreal) would edge him imo.

BTW, I favor peak Gavilan over Leonard, although that would be just as close as this match-up.

Gavilan was better that Leonard, but Duran beat Leonard so thoroughly that I think he might eek out a victory in this one. Really too close to call. Gavilan was damn good, one of the best welterweights ever.

I pick Gavilan. I think he can make it his sort of fight and enforce himself being the slightly bigger man. I got no problem with the guys picking Duran though, it would be one of those on the cards anyway. No distance between them...what a fight. You'd learn an awful lot about up close in this one.

Duran all day. Just a bad matchup for Kid. I don't see how you can beat a fighter who holds the advantages in most of the categories you excel in. I just don't see Gavilan being able to turn the fight into one that favors his style. Come to think of it, what style could he possibly use to defeat Duran in the first place?

Gavilan was never a Power Hitter, but was hella fast and threw good combinations, but Duran was way wilder, and could punch pretty hard at 147.

    Duran UD.

Gavilan was a better inside technician than Leonard, and unlike Leonard, may have had the skills to match/neutralize Duran at close quarters.

I'll take Gavvy by close decision, in a thrilling, fast paced battle.

Duran to edge it, the tempo is fast and set high, but Kid takes a bit of a breather to box throughout tough ones. I see Duran getting some vital points there. Also on the inside Duran might have his hardest time, but i see him doing just a bit more throughout the duration and shooting rights when Gavilan goes at distance jabbing.

I give that Duran a very good shot at a points win,Gavilan had an iron chin ,but he liked to fight in bursts, Duran of Montreal would be on his chest all the way.
