    Duran relinquished his WBA light middle strap to challenge Hearns.
    We know how that ended.
    Mike McCallum came along to pick up his vacant title.
    What if Duran had taken a fight against MM instead?
    Duran s experience against McCallum s youth.
    Which would prevail??

    I’d favour Mike. I don’t remember how developed he was at the time but provided it was a good version of the BodySnatcher he’d put the hurt on Duran. Of the four I think Hearns would cop it the worst from Mike though.

    I belive, but not hundred percent sure, this was McCallum first title fight?
    Even if it wasn't, it was very early on for the body snatcher. So with that said, it's a possibility that Duran could maybe show him the ropes and get a decision.
    Saying that, McCallum always seemed confident so he perhaps gets himself a win over one of the big four.

    Yeah, 84 McCallum doesn't make a shame of himself or the situation but he is a little out of his league. I just boxrec'd when it could happen. I wouldn't bet a cent on McCallum just yet. But it'd be a good one no doubt in my mind. Wrong time Mike, wish he'd come around sooner I think he'd have beaten Benitez, Duran and Hearns. Toss up with Hagler and Leonard all provided he was on his best possible night. Could've added some flavour to the FAB4 situation but him carrying his era's flag against the new crop was too cool to pass up. In a universe where he fought Duran, Hearns, Leonard and Hagler I'd be in awe it would be awesome but I don't think I can part with the Toney bouts so much to see! I almost wish he did lose to Duran in 84, just seeing them in the ring together would be a treat but I wouldn't appreciate it if it did happen, life's funny like that.

    Duran is my favorite fighter of all time but hes not beating Mike at 154.

    It's a Intresting stage of both men's career. McCallum just starting out on the world stage Duran just beaten Moore but coming up to the Hearns slaughter.
    I do think Mike could perhaps be underestimated here and grab a win but a lot depends on Duran frame of mind.
    It would be a learning fight for sure, for Mike.

    I am not a believer in the greatness of MM but he was good enough to outpoint Duran

    He wont hurt him but it's a young man's game

    No he definitely wouldn't have hurt him as such. If Hagler couldn't, McCallum won't.
    The only guy capable of that was the man who destroyed him - Hearns.
