Can you imagine Duran going to the body on Pacquiao? It would be savage.

Um....he did stop De Jesus twice you know and he was an outstanding fighter. The McClendon fight was only a couple of months after a tough title fight against Thompson. In fact all those fights you list were non-title fights. It must be very difficult to be intensely focused for every fight when you're fighting as much as Roberto was at the time of those fights you mentioned.

Anyway, I assumed we were talking the very best of both fighters. So I agree with you there, Manny takes an unfocussed not at his best Duran by UD.:good

No more savage than when Margarito, Mosley went to his neck/body.

Duran would absolutely obliterate Pacquiao at any weight they fought at. It would be a great fight with a lot of action, but Duran would get the better of him all night and Pac wouldn't be able to take those punches.

Yea yea yea excuse excuse excuse...like I said I'm sure Duran will be the favorite to win since he's the bigger guy plus he's an outstanding fighter but to just say that he'll murder Pacquiao is just local. I hope you know that Pacquiao is not a bum here, he's this generation best.

Pacquiao took huge hits from Cotto and then Margarito which proves if he's not dehydrated he can handle getting hit from a big welter and light middleweight. I don't know where your getting Pacquiao is not strong enough to handle getting hit from Duran.

The fight would depend on how much Pacquiao thinks he can go toe to toe with Duran. If Pacquiao stays with his in and out movement, it's tough to say Duran gets the better of him. When Leonard went with the outside game plan he frustrated the hell out of Duran. As much as I love Duran's ring savvy, Pac's combination speed punching would definitively get to Duran at times. Pac's south paw right hook would also force Duran to respect Pacquiao and limit his bull rushing to get on the inside keeping his punch output down. I see it as being a toss up depending on Pacquiao's bravado in the ring. Too much toe to toe and I think Pacquiao goes down. but he's not finished with his career yet so it's really an unfair comparison.

    1. Cotto and Margarito are not Roberto Duran.

Duran would find Pacquiao waaaaaaay more often and much more cleanly than either of those guys were able to.

    2. In and out movement from Pac is a lot different than an outside gameplan. Pac does not have it in him to fight like Leonard did, nor does he have the height (5'10). Pac would HAVE to go toe to toe with Duran, and imo Duran is going to come out on top there. The guy was effective up to and over middleweight even as a shot fighter.

Pacquiao is a great fighter, no doubt. But Duran was much, much better and I don't think that's even debatable.

depends which version of Duran showed up

The Duran that showed up against Laing, Hearns, the dude he fought on the undercard of Arguello/Pryor, would undoubtedly lose to Pac.

The other versions of Duran would make a great entertaining competitive fight.

Pacquaio's in and out movement is his outside game. He uses his foot speed to get his quick punch combinations inside and retreats to an outside range. i.e. no toe-to-toe brawling on the inside or in fighting. It is the same game as any other outside style except is usually limited to a one or one two punches. An one other thing I noticed that I have read much about is that Pacquiao used a quick snapping jab against Mosley which unlike in his previous fights that jab was noting more than a range finder.

As far as Cotto and Margarito go, ya they are not Duran but that's not the point. The point is Pacquiao is a natural lightwelter at best and as such has proven his toughness. This is a fantacy match-up; for them to meet in the ring, they havfe to be the same weight and Duran at lightwelter has less power than he would at middleweight. Case being Duran puts his body weight into his punches and is not the typical arm puncher. i.e. with less weight there is less weight leverage.

Pacquiao doesn't need SRL 5'10" to be elusive and stay on the outside. He did this almost exclusively against OLDH. It is the gameplan that is important. Duran is less effective against the outside style, I used SRL as the example because you can easily look at the difference in style approach by reviewing fights 1 and 2.

Duran has the infighting and power advantage but Pacquiao has the foot and hand speed advantage. It is very difficult to tell just how much ring savvy Pacquaio has gained in the later part of his career because he often allows himself to get hit either to prove he can take it or put on a show for the fans. We will have a better indicator of his ring generalship growth when he fight Marquez. Point being I'd give Ring smarts to Duran at this point, but there are still some unknows about Pacquiao.

Pac likes to fight and so does Duran. Duran wouldnt have to look for Pac either....Pac will not see the last bell in this fight!

I tend to agree, but that's not what happened against ODLH.
