There was probably some truth to it then. And the way Donald destroyed Milton. Colin had a lot of heart and was a good fighter. Curry was a sharpshooter. People did overrated Milton quite a bit. I would have loved to have seen him fight Lloyd or Starling. I think they might have been too much for him.

Don had been with Dave Gorman & Paul Reyes since he was a kid. Youre right Muhammad was his downfall He bamboozled Don with his Big $$$ Fast cars spiel Then Leonardstabbed him in the back over the Hagler fight.

Hard to say .Curry at his peak was fast and hit hard .was rated pfp champ for a while .Duran struggled with fast boxers who hit hard and moved. tough fight for Duran

I don't see how Ray backstabbed him directly. I don't think Ray knew he was going to fight Hagler, so he was waiting. Had Donald found out he would have taken the shine off Ray announcing he would fight Hagler, and announcements and all that are important to Ray and his ego I think Hagler was going to retire had Ray not come out.. So Donald would not have fought him anyway. I think Hagler thought, I cannot turn down a Leonard fight and he took Ray for granted.

Curry, in his pomp, was a serious threat to anyone in the division, past or present. However, it's difficult to favor anyone, but a handful of Greats, to overcome Duran's peak performance, at Welterweight.

Duran never matched Leonards handspeed . Ray got suckered into training with Duran on the inside .
In the rematch you saw what happened-Duran was no match for Leonards speed.
Curry isnt as fast as Leonard but hes alot faster then Duran .
Duran had nowhere near the punch at welter like he did at lightweight .
Curry vs Jones was a brillant performance by Curry- he trashed a good tough pro boxer inside of 5 rounds with ease .
People forget that at one time Curry vs Hagler was the bout everyone wanted to see- the 2 best pound for pound against one another-Leonard was an afterthought at this point having not fought in years.
Curry hired Leonards advisors who in turn steered Curry out of the Hagler fight on purpose- when Curry beat Mccroy he shoukd have moved up there was no reason to stay at Welter.

Sorry man this doesn't make any sense. Standing at close range is exactly where handspeed and reflexes come into play. Not only were Duran'# hands plenty quick he was able to slip Leonard 's punches at point blank range. Ray missed more punches that night than you would see in any 3 of his fights. Duran in his prime was as quick as a cat. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Not at all Don wanted to move up & challenge Hagler before he retired. Leonard, who was supposedly working for Muhammad as Don's advisor, talking him into waiting saying Hagler wont retire yet . All the time he was negociating to fight Hagler himself though he was supposedly retired. The first Don knew was when Leonard announced the fight. If that's not backstabbing what is/ Marvin would not have retired after that fight except he thought, as most others did, Marvin won that fight & was robbed
Don immediately challenged Leonard who did not want anything to do with Don
Gon was ringside when Leonard fought Camacho purely for the paycheck he didn't even try. Don's plan was to embarass Ray into fighting him but as he said "I wont embarass myself challenging him after the pathetic performance you just gave"
Leonards supposed answer was " I got well paid for being here tonight you didn't"
Scum of the earth in my book

I don't think Ray is the greatest guy. I think Hearns and Duran were probably better guys in their hearts and they would fight anyone without the games, although Duran did get Ray to fight his fight in the first fight I thought. Ray is always calculating and knows when to fight, but that first Duran fight taught him to weigh all the factors. And Hagler is a great guy. I have seen his comments and the way he has acted for years, he is an honest straight forward guy who always came to fight and I like him. No nonsense to him, and I think that is why he did not like Leonard too much because he found that Ray was a nice guy to his face and then sort of slipped his way into that fight. But I also think Hagler is mad at thimself because he fell for all of Leonard's stuff for their fight. Coming out righty the first two rounds was not smart. he gave the fight and the momentum to Ray. He should have seen Ray as threatening as Hearns and he would have won. And if he was not going to be as motivated maybe don't fight Ray. It was Marvin's fault
About Donald? I still don't see that as a backstabbing. Marvin wanted out of boxing. He got with the Hearns fight the commercials and all that with pizza hut and coke and deodorant commercials he wanted, and the respect. And you could tell even for Mugabi he was not motivated. That was enough respect he needed and I think he felt he had to take the Ray fight. but I don't think he would have fought Curry. I think he knew his era was Duran,Hearns and Leonard and that is whom he wanted to fight. Muhammad was the start of Donald going down for sure. The McCallum fight was bad in many ways. Mike was too good to just jump in there with at that point. Camacho/Leonard? What a terrible fight. Ray had some ankle issue and couldn't even move on his legs and his last fight 6 years before was a onesided loss to Norris. I am not sure what I think about that fight. Not much. But Donald Curry is one of those fighters which is hard to explain why he fell apart. But I do not think he had much of a case saying Ray backstabbed him. I don't know why Ray would not tell Donald right off I am going to fight Marvin, you can wait. Which tells me Ray was not sure he wanted to fight him. So if he was not sure, why would he have to tell Donald or Muhammad.

Possibly. If Lloyd fought pre-Jones McCrory, I think Milt probably edges him. I could see Marlon beating Milton if he got inside, if not, Milton wins by decision.

A couple of people have stated that Ray telegraphed his punches. I think that helped Roberto in the first fight, though I think him having Ray scared s***less won him the fight.
