Roberto Duran put on a great performance in 1983 taking the Light Middleweight title from a very talented young champion Davey Moore. What do you think would have happened that night if Duran met another young champion but instead it was a young Fernado Vargas while he was a young champion and on top of his game.

Duran would KO him, vargas may off been ferocious at times, but he didnt like taking it back, duran would outbox him and stop him. tougher man

Yeah, Duran trounces him....Vargas never approached the level of Duran.

Fernando was consistently good at 154 for a short time. Duran had a nice showing against 12-0 Davey Moore but otherwise had a pretty forgettable run at 154.

Winky Wright and Tito were better than Duran at 154. Duran was better than Quartey, who caused Vargas some trouble.

It would be Vargas' fight to lose. If he showed up in top form and stuck to his gameplan, he could take a close decision. If he got macho and waved his chin on the air, he could be tko'd or beaten up over 12/15.

The Duran who beat Moore would also beat Vargas, I'm pretty sure of that, I'm equally comfortable in saying the Duran who fought Kirkland Laing would lose to Vargas.

You might be right considering that Vargas was out of shape against Winky and waved his chin against Quartey and Tito....
