Who wins this fight between Duran and Mayweather at 135? Assuming we're taking peak versions of each fighter at this weight. So the Duran that beat the likes of Buchanan, Lampkin and De Jesus, and the Floyd that beat Corrales on that night where he looked sensational. Who takes this and in what fashion?

The outcome depends on how much punishment Floyd is willing to take. I'll go with Duran by one punch K.O at the weigh in as soon as Floyd opens his mouth.

Well Floyd is Certainly not stopping Duran, and I find it doubtful that Duran would stop Floyd but I am not as certain of that one.

I do think Floyd has a very real chance here, but would not be the favorite both in terms of odds and the consensus that will come in.

I have to picture this at 12 rounds ( I hate trying to hypothesize how a fighter would respond to a test they never prepared for or faced..rounds 13-15 are special and we never know how a fighter will respond until they have IMHO).

I think this would be a close fight, that Duran would edge...but his work rate and accuracy would fall off just as every Floyd opponent did. I wouldn’t be surprised if Floyd won, I just don’t find it the most likely outcome....Duran 7-5 no knockdowns

Personally, I think it's usually much, much better when people build off existing threads instead of creating new ones from scratch. That way we can take advantage of some of the interesting and insightful posts from the past, especially from some of the good posters who are no longer active. Just my two cents.

Duran is a bad matchup for Floyd. I’ve always felt that way. He has the feints to throw his radar off, the output to outwork him, the punch to dissuade him, the defense to avoid what’s coming back, and the boxing ability to be able to set Floyd up.

Floyd is tough and savvy so he’ll go the distance. Duran 10-5 in rounds or something like that in a very competitive fight that Floyd cannot boss.

Ultimate Duran at Lightweight. Duran beats Floyd over 15 rds. 9-6 in rounds.

8-01-21 : Roberto Duran 134¼ lbs beat Esteban De Jesus 134 lbs by TKO at 2:32 in round 12 of 15

"Panama's Roberto Duran dramatically ended a close fight with a 12th-round TKO Saturday of Esteban DeJesus of Puerto Rico to win the undisputed lightweight boxing championship of the world. The fight was virtually even until Duran connected with a short right hand, putting DeJesus down. The Puerto Rican got up, only to run into a barrage of blows and was helpless when co-trainer Manny Siaca entered the ring and called for referee Buddy Basilico to stop the bout. Duran showed a swelling under his right eye in the 5th round and at the end of that stanza DeJesus was spitting blood. Other than that, there were no visible marks and neither boxer went down until Duran scored with the right in the 12th. The title fight was a bruising battle from its start to its sudden finish, although all three judges had Duran ahead after 11 rounds, by margins of three to five points." - Associated Press

    Notes
    • Duran was a 2-1 favorite.
    • Duran earned $250,000, while DeJesus got $150,000.
    • The fight took place at the Caesars Palace Sports Pavilion.
    • The fight was televised nationally by CBS.
    • All three judges had Duran ahead at the time of the knockout. Art Lurie had him ahead 107-102, Isidor Rodriques had him in front 109-104, and Richard Steele had him leading 107-104.
    • The AP report had DeJesus ahead by one point after 11 rounds, although no point total was given.
    • Duran became the Undisputed World Lightweight Champion.
    • This was Duran's last fight as a lightweight.
    Post-Fight Comments
    • "He didn't jab the way he knows how. In the 12th, he made that one mistake: he dropped his left hand and got hit by a right." - Manny Siaca, DeJesus' trainer
    • "I will fight again. I'm sorry for my fans, but I will be back and I want another shot at Duran." - Esteban DeJesus
    • "I was born for this, I was born to be champion." - Roberto Duran
