If Floyd fights defensively he could possibly survive but not win, if he decides to mix, Duran wins by stoppage
Sounds weird but I think Mayweather's a little bit underrated. It's blasphemy I know, but perhaps a peak Mayweather is a much more seasoned and complete fighter than a 1980 Ray Leonard.
Mayweather is not a natural welterweight in my view. I don't think he can limit Duran's offense enough at this weight to have any shot at a points victory. Floyd has to keep the match minimalist. I don't think he can. Maybe at 154.
This reminds me of Foreman/Marciano threads. You know who the majority are going to favor, the argument is pretty much set in stone, it just seems like..."I haven't imagined this guy getting knocked out in while, let's start another thread."
Erase this result, downplay that result, bring in results from the wrong weight class and...bang! Duran ktfo Mayeather @154.
Tough call. I feel that Floyd at his best, 130, might just be better than Roberto at his best, 135. Not necessarily greater, but better. But would Floyd beat Duran if the weight was 135 with the same day weigh-in? Yeah, my money would be on him doing so. But it's a tough one, as I said. 147 is trickier imo. I think PBF lost a bit more moving up to WW. So could he check the onslaught of Montreal Duran with his shoulder roll and counters when not moving as much or throwing as much? A pick 'em for me. The Floyd who beat Canelo beats any version of Duran after Montreal imo. Manos was never the same fighter again, while Floyd's decline has been much more gentle.
Yeah, I think Floyd vs Corrales was better p4p than that version of Leonard. Than any version of Leonard to be frank. Contrary what it may sound like I don't like Floyd very much, but at his very best he was an extremely, extremely complete fighter.
I actually think JCC had a better case against Pea and Trinidad a better case against DLH. Not good cases, mind you, but better. For me, the "controversy" in this case is just blind adulation. Still a very good performance by Duran, though. One of the great losing performances.
No. Leonard was always better than mayweather. A better finisher. Better combos. Harder hitter. Quicker. And just as smart as floyd against better opponents.
