Montreal Duran only gets beat by SRR. Next to that version, lightweight version he is still considered the best lightweight in history. 135-147 it is Duran who is the stylistic nightmare for Floyd. 154 even then Floyd struggles, but usually given the benefit of the doubt. Duran wasn't great above 147, but neither is Floyd Duran has better wins up there.

I found the idea of Roberto Duran Vs Floyd Mayweather so compelling I used a portrait of same in my avatar.

I don’t believe Floyd would necessarily be an easy egg for Duran to crack.

And, of course, Duran would be no walk in the park for Floyd either.

I think Duran would take him (Floyd)... But, since it’s a fantasy fight, we can never really know, for sure, what the outcome would be.

The difference is tho, floyd does not have Leonard`s overall ability to hit & move, he`s not as big as Leonard either... Duran was hurting Leonard & even tho Leonard fought flatfooted, he wasn`t allowed to box & move because Duran was in his zone & making all the right moves preventing him from doing so, Duran was nailing Leonard with right hand leads, he was jabbing, bobbing & weaving, then closing the distnce in a flash & working Ray over on the inside.

There is nothing floyd could do to stop Duran from doing his thing, Duran is just a better overall fighter, its that simple.... & if he can hurt Leonard, wtf do you think he`s gonna do to floyd, this is not rocket science, Duran beats floyd & does so comfortably.

    Mayweather is 5′ 8″ with a reach of 72″ . Duran is 5′ 7″ and 66″ .

I can see Robinson fighting Duran the same way Leonard did in Montreal. The result could have been a upset win for Duran. The second fight between the two would have played out like Duran/Leonard II in Robinson's favor. Duran is nothing close to a stylistic nightmare for Mayweather. In fact he plays in to Mayweather's greatest stringth.

Duran's best wins 147-154 are: Sugar Ray Leonard, Pipino Cuevas & Davey Moore.
Mayweather's best wins 147-154 are: Zab Judah, Carlos Manuel Baldomir, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley, Victor Ortiz, and Miguel Cotto.

Duran's win over Leonard regardless of the circimstances is far and away the best win of either boxer. However each of the wins for Mayweather are at least as good if not better than Duran's wins over Pipino Cuevas & Davey Moore..

Also consider that Duran also lost to Leonard in the rematch, Wilfred Benitez & Thomas Hearns in the same weight range.

Duran losing to Benitez easily and Ray easily and Hearns beating him with speed shows that Mayweather would have a great chance of outboxing him.

Guys with speed and defense always gave Duran fits. Duran could be outboxed and frustrated in the ring. PBF has the reach advantage and which is very important and has the ability to outbox and frustrate Duran with his speed movement countering defense and ring generalship. PBF won't fight Duran's fight like SRL did the first time. PBF is a bad matchup for Duran.

Duran is great and greater than Mayweather ever will be because he fought them all, but stylewise Mayweather would beat him, Exactly. The wrong style for Duran as was Whitaker. The guys who are slickster and great who are fast and don't fight Duran's fight usually beat him and beat him easily. Benitez beat Duran relatively easily with slick moves and counterpunching for his 154 pound title.

I've only seen video of Duran, I wasn't around to have seen any of his fights during his prime years.

From what I see, that dude was a monster. As others have stated, he looks like a stylistic nightmare for Floyd, but if Floyd has shown you anything over the course of his career it is his ability to adapt. Make no bones about it, Floyd is special.

At 135, the more mobile Floyd, I think, would be able to box his way to a very competitive, damn close decision. 147, post Marquez, I favor Duran because of Floyd's more planted style of attack and at 154 I favor Mayweather again as Duran wasn't quite the killer that he was at the lower weights.

I'm thinking this would have been a trilogy type of fight.

Great post. Duran doesn't deal well with guys like PBF. I would tip Pea Whitaker as well to beat him.

    :deal

*****s and Duran haters like MAG keep trying really hard to imply a PRIME Duran had trouble with movers, as if 154 is his natural weight and Floyd bounces around as quickly as Leonard did in the rematch and didn't end up being cornered by almost every pressure fighter he's faced.

I'll re-post an excellent breakdown of Duran's success against mobile outside fighters in his prime from a thread I made comparing Chavez and Duran's stylistic strengths:

Those that can't be bothered to actually analyze Duran's demonstration of skill can stop posting now.
