Lol you know mayweather himself rates Duran the best of all time. I'm sure he knows talent when he see's it. Duran at his best would kill him lol Castillo beat mayweather lol
Awfull post. Before Buchanan Duran at 18 years old beat the brilliant Ernesto Marcel at featherweight. Marcel is one of the great featherweights and one of only a handful of fighters to retire as reigning world champion after beating Alexis Arguello. Yes, Duran lost to DeJesus who was a great counter puncher with dynamite in both hands, but lets not forget he evenged that loss twice. The third being an absolute masterclass. And how do you come to the conclusion Duran fought joke fighters up until he fought Leonard ? Have you heard of Mexican hof legend Carlos Palomino ? Another Duran masterclass. As for the thread title. Duran at his best would beat Mayweather and it wouldn't even be close. There's already a great thread on Duran vs Floyd Jr where you can read fellow like minded ***** fools receive an absolute schooling on this subject.
you cannot say things like that. Styles make fights. Hearns beats Virgil Hill easily. and a guy who is not close to his level beats him Barkley. I think Floyd, who is not a great fighter to me edges Duran with his style and speed. Duran never did well with speedy fighters. He did better with guys who were in front of him and gave him the range to be hit.
Imagine replacing Castillo with Duran or Chavez lol. Floyd would not have that 0 and that's a 100% solid fact. Imagine replacing Maidana with Duran of Montreal vintage. Floyd's 0 would be brutally punched right up his azz. To be unbiased here Floyd could beat the unmotivated past prime Duran that showed up in some fights post Montreal, but fantasy matches should consist of best version of both and when it comes down to that no way Floyd can beat Duran.
Duran had trouble with speedy guys. Look at Benitez and Leonard. I am not sure Duran would handle Floyd's style well.
I think Duran would stick to Floyd like glue and really rough him up in clinches. He'd body Floyd, probably fight real dirty too. Floyd might try to hold him or use his elbows, but Duran would kidney punch and thumb Floyd in the eye or groin for that. Might even lace him and cut him. His pressure and power would just be too much, more than Floyd has ever had to handle. It would be much worse than what Maidana or Castillo did to him.
Floyd never would sit there. He would use his speed to counter and win the exchanges and get out of there. I mean I just see how Duran fought other fast guys and the blueprint is there. Benitez is a lot like Floyd.
At lightweight and possibly welterweight I would go with Duran. A fully motivated and trained Duran would be a man on a mission against Floyd. Before the Montreal fight, Leonard was having a walk in the park with his family, then suddenly Duran appeared from nowhere and in an aggressive manner and threatened everyone. Leonard was taken back. Could you imagine Duran doing that to Floyd?? It would be a very interesting fight, hands of stone for me though. Floyd is more skilled, however Duran had as good educated pressure, boxing on the front foot, as any fighter that ever lived.
I really struggle to agree that Floyd is more skilled than Duran. Duran has a more complete skillset without question. As for people saying Duran had trouble with speed. It's true but only when he was past prime and above his natural weight where his feet and reflexes became slower and his discipline was inconsistent. When discussing prime Duran we're talking about a fighter who doesn't have much trouble with speed. He proved this in the Marcel, Buchanan, and Leonard 1 fights. Marcel was fast, slippery and slick. Buchanan was fast of hand and foot. Infact Buchanan was quicker and more elusive on his feet than Mayweather ever was. Ken B is considered to have some of the most impressive footwork of all time and Duran was able to consistently close him off and beat on him. When Duran fought SRL In Montreal he was highly motivated and got into the shape of his life. We all seen how quick he was able to close Ray down and make one of the fastest boxers of all time miss regularly. The only welterweight beating Duran that night is probably Ray Robinson.
The Duran who beat the hell out of Leonard would murder Void.....................wrong style for Void.............
I think Floyd could win 2 fights out of 3. Duran would be likely to win the first one, but then Floyd would adjust, although all the fights will be closed and maybe controversial.
Hearns would always beat the all time great Duran. Styles make fights. Being beat by Duran Jr Mayweather is not really a blemish as both were fantastic. In a matchup of both at their best at Lightweight I might slightly favor Duran on points but not very sure. I know Floyd would give Duran real issues as well.
It is mainly the mental aspect where he could psyche Floyd out. That was the key against Leonard, he dragged him into his fight. SRL fought the wrong the fight against Duran. In terms of skill, Duran had plenty but what Floyd can do in the pocket is incredible. Floyd has better reaction/reflexes than Duran I reckon. Duran though with his combined strength, punching power, aggression and evasive skills would beat Floyd. Agreed on Sugar Ray Robinson, pound for pound, best boxer of all time.
Hearns held all the physical advantages over Duran in that fight and would always give him hell. As well as being the much bigger he was also a stylistic nightmare for Duran. In saying all that Duran was in terrible condition when he faced Hearns. If he was to have faced Duran at welter it would be a much tougher task for Hearns, especially Montreal Duran who would have been sharp enough on his feet to get inside Hearns and sharp enough to avoid Hearns bombs. I don't think Floyd gives Duran that much trouble at lightweight. Floyd didn't look great at lightweight.
Style wise I think Tommy Hearns is all wrong for Floyd as well. Reach, height, punching power. It would not suit Floyd boxing the Hitman.
