Damn Red, that´s a good fight....the Duran that fought Barkley would give Fullmer a lot of problems..... I think I wouldn´t bet on Duran though, too risky....I think Fullmer was a very good combination puncher, and tends to be underrated because of his awkward style....
I'm rollin' with the best MW version of Roberto. Trapsetting and counterpunching wins the day. Nice fantasy fight though
Fullmer would overpower him. Too strong and tireless. Roberto simply doesn't have the firepower or strength at MW to keep the ever-charging Fullmer off of him. Duran's counterpunches wouldn't make an impression at all and the furious pace Fullmer sets, coupled with his awkward attack, allows him to sweep the later rounds. Roberto Duran, at best, is clever enough to survive the distance. But he ultimately gets banged-up and loses by UD.
My thoughts also. Gene wouldn't be respectful of Duran the way Hagler was, he would just plow through with everything he had. Dick Tiger was the only one he met who could hold him back in the strength dept.
:goodYep..right answer. Fullmer would bully and outstrength Duran for 15 miserable, inartistic, crude rounds...and have him rejoicing to hear the final bell. Fullmer was wild, crude and relentless...and terribly strong. Roberto would be in over his head in this one.
As with Zale, there would be no tepid, overly respectful type of performance from Fullmer as in the case of Hagler..and true enough timmers612...Tiger was probably the only guy to directly outstrength Fullmer.
That's how I see it. A good fight, with plenty of action, but I believe Fullmer's strength would prevail and make the difference.
Fullmer, Duran was not great after welterweight. In fact, he had great bout in first Leonard fight, after that, not much.
