Fullmer might well make Duran lead as he did Webb and Basilio (first fight) so would be a strong, awkward proposition for Duran, as well as being able to hold his own in the exchanges. Fullmer>Barkley. Gene comes through a tough fight to win a decision.
He didn't get sparked out by Dick Tiger. In fact, pretty much only Ray Robinson flat out blasted Fullmer anywhere close to his prime. Again, you're talking utter shite.
Fullmer is interesting. A big strong fighter who doesn't mind fighting on the back foot but can also try to physically overwhelm his opponents. He didn't have a great deal of accuracy and I consider him a jack of all trades - master of none kinda boxer. Duran pushed Hagler close and by my money Hagler is the best middleweight in history. Duran also won a close fight against barkley. When the clear inferior in terms of size Duran fought very intelligently and with great poise. I think Duran takes a huge early lead but eventually, over 15, fullmer will wear down Duran imo. Fullmer will sweep the championship rounds and depending on when the turning point occurs depends on which way the decision goes. Close fight either way.
Fullmer wouldn't have been in awe of Duran like Hagler was. He would rough up Roberto like he's never been roughed up.
A rough fight, with probably as many headbutts, forearms, lowblows, and elbows as legal punches. Fullmer too strong and a natural MW, UD. I don't see him stopping Duran.
With a guy like Fullmer, Duran would do well. Guys who beat Duran were fast and sharp Benitez,Hearns,Leonard.
