In a previous hypthetical Duran was favoured to beat englishman Nigel Benn by the majority of posters. How does Duran fare against the less dangerous, yet perhaps more tricky, Joe Calzaghe?

Duran by SD in an Iran Barkley type of effort.

Duran KO1. Roberto's handspeed and freshness would be the deciding factors. Calzaghe is obviously a live dog due to his one-shot Goodnight Panama City power, but I'd back Duran to strike first and most decisively.

Duran carried 168 lbs well as seen in his fights against Jorge Castro, a solid workman-like title holder much like Calzaghe. Juan Ferreyra was a very good super middleweight contender who gave Benn one of his tougher fights, Duran beat him by clear margins.

I picked Calzaghe by UD, and I don't think it would really be close. Knowing "Styles make fights" I still make this decision on the fact that I don't think Joe Cal loses to Vinny Pazienza or Jorge Castro...If Duran fought at 168 closer to his prime maybe I reconsider, but we obviously have to go off the body of work he did have at 168, and I don't think it was impressive enough to beat Joe Cal.

me too  , Duran just too small for the weight,

obviously Pd 4 Pd he's on another level, but anything above Middleweight and he's quiet ordinary

    Calzaghe by UD

Calzaghe dosnt get much love here.

For all the questions that he left unanswered, he was a verry problematic fighter to deal with in his own weight class. For Durn stepping up he would be a bridge to far.

agreed. cal is the best 168 pounder ever (not h2h but on longevity and resume) and duran was borderline fat at that weight. he had no business above middle and calzaghe, in his prime, had the hand speed and movement to **** off duran

Duran would perform a lot better if he came in at 161, something right over the MW limit as opposed to a full blown Super Middle.

you always favour the more recent fighter though. imo, the 70's style was not much different from the late 90's/early 00's. Infact i would go as far to say theres been an overall decline since the 70's
