Let's say instead of vacating his belt. Duran opted to face Jackson around 89-90. Who would have won?
Jackson was far more skilled than Barkley offensively and wws a better finisher, he also had faster hands than anyone Duran ever faced at 160, he would land more than Barkley did on the 38 year old Duran and therre`s no way Duran could take Jackson`s power.
Jackson ko 3, If a past it Jackson was able to last 5 rounds with prime Gerald i think he can hang with Duran, he bombs out the light weight early, just way too much power for a smaller guy to handle
Jackson is all wrong for Duran at 154. One of the worst matchups imaginable for Duran at that weight. Jackson's not Moore and he's not Barkley. Older Duran was very adept at riding with punches, but against Julian Jackson... even shots that don't land completely flush will render you unconscious. Obviously, Duran is P4P much better and greater, but I think Jackson destroys Duran at 154.
Jackson could hit, but really has very few fast-paced fights to his credit, whereas Duran does. Jackson might shake Duran or floor him once early, and then a great inside fight would commence, which would swing Duran's way around the 6th imo, and Duran would stop Jackson no later than 11. Probably 8.
Problem for Duran is that unlike Moore and Barkley, Jackson wasn't wild. He was a very precise, compact puncher, and he had MUCH better handspeed than a Moore/Barkley. Jackson would also have damn near 5 inches of height on Duran, and BEFORE he fell in love with his power, Jackson had an educated jab and good lateral movement. Duran would get bombed out if he tried to come at Jackson, and he'd also eventually get caught if he tried to counterpunch Jackson, because Jackson eventually landed on everyone.
I'm THE BIGGEST Duran fan on this forum, and that's totally unrealistic. Jackson landed bombs on every single guy he ever faced. McCallum and McClellan simply had the size and chin to take it, and the power to take him out early. Duran was crafty and skilled at 154, but he wasn't some untouchable defensive wiz like Miguel Canto. Far lesser guys than Jackson landed on the older Duran. So once again, unrealistic scenario.
I think maybe this goes 6-7 rounds, close fight until then, Duran steps in with a right and gets beaten to it or countered and knocked out, Duran was slightly washed at 154lbs and would have slowed down late on and lost concentration as you do when you’re gassed and I think Duran maybe throws a lazy punch or does a lazy movement or comments when he shouldn’t and it gets capitalised on
I kinda thought about this and on second thoughts, Duran probably can't take those shots from Jackson. If Duran goes straight at him, then it's more like the Hearns fight than the McCallum fight. I also didn't really read the OP, the version from the specified time definitely doesn't do this. The version who fought Moore might have been able to take advantage of a big miss from Jackson, but I doubt that too.
