The lightweight Duran isn't overrated. He has a damn good argument as the best there ever was at 135.

At 147, the Palomino/Leonard Duran would beat MOST welterweights in history.

At 154, I think sometimes he gets overrated. So not Duran overall, but the junior middleweight Duran.

I meant at 154 and above, some people on here just think he’s invincible at every weight he fought

I’m going for Duran of the Barkley fight here, which was his best win around Jackson’s weight. Does anyone see a Julian beating Iran the Blade?

Who was the best guy Julian beat though? I know he had “get out of jail card” power but it’s only really Thomas Hearns who knocked out Durán. And Hearns was way more advanced than Jackson ever was. I don’t see how Jackson can transfer his level of success against that echelon of fighter without more evidence.

I’m happy to pick the Barkley who lost to Durán beating Jackson. Though I accept it’s not entirely guaranteed. Barkley was just a bit too physical for a Jackson in my view.

    I agree with this
Jackson is far from the worst match up for Duran.

I'm not sure Duran had another truly world class win in him after Barks. Jackson is the sort of guy he'd get up for but i'm just not sure that would be enough at this late stage. Duran did ship some very heavy blows against Iran.

You had to be a great boxer as well as having the size advantage to nullify Duran at 154 or 160 and Hagler, Benitez, Mccallum, Hearns are great boxers.

I would put Jackson closer to Barkley's level than those in terms of boxing, and although he could hit extremely hard, Barkley could too, and he hit Duran with his best left hook and Duran didn't get knocked down, much less knocked out.

It's an interesting fight .. Duran's fight against Barkley remains astonishing .. often forgotten was that in many ways Iran never looked better than he did that night .. he boxed, he was focused, he was very fast , tough as nails ... DFuran simply put on a show for the ages .. Jackson possesses a different set of challenges and he'd have to be slightly favored but if the same Duran showed up one last time it's a pickem fight to me ..

I love Jackson, and he would prove a challenge because of his size, power, and precision, but let's face it. The best guy he ever beat was Herol Graham. While Graham was a good fighter, he was quite a ways off from some of the great fighters Duran beat.

After the SRL payday u just know duran is gonna gorge at victors cafe blow up to 200 lbs. and lose motivation.
Its reasonable to think Jackson ices him.
But i cant see it...jackson is gonna be right there...and duran even a half motivated Duran like the 86-89 mw vintage duran...i cant see jackson outboxing him on points...or knocking him out...
Jackson was a very clever boxer...he set traps and didnt mind being outboxed while he did it .Theres no such thing as a lucky punch and if there was you dont get lucky twice scoring one punch concussive kayoes over a terry norris and herol graham.thats boxing skill.

Duran has a better temprament and chin than those 2...jackson wont hurt him..

I dont think duran will come in pudgy, inactive and totally untrained like against lawlor.that duran does end up on a stretcher

Hells no. JJ is crude as hell compared to Barkley.

What JJ does have is beastly, pulverising power and he throws punches in bunches. I'm not sure if Duran can survive the onslaught but what I do think if he makes it out of the early rounds, I think he probably wins. MW is really not Duran's best weight.

No way could Barkley have KO`d a fighter like Norris look what Toney did to him, Jackson`s hands were far quicker than Barkley`s were v Benn, he looked like he was fighting in slow motion against the quick fisted Benn and that`s how he would have looked v any quick fisted fighter.
