Chavez KO's Duran in the later rounds. Duran fought mediocres in the 135lbs during the 1970's. The best of the mediocres were Edwin Viret, Ray lampkin. Chavez had a mush tougher chin than Duran and would wear down Duran slowly and savegely.
This has been done many times but even if so why not? Its one of the best matchups i can think of, i think Durans speed is the key here, Chavez keeps up with him punch for punch for most of the fight however Duran just gets off a little more when it counts.. Tell you one thing though for as great offensively and powerful as these guys punched(Duran harder) no ones getting kod here both have cast iron chins (especially Chavez) both also have underrated defenses. Duran would win a close but convincing decision.
people are underrating durans defense. it would be a great fight but duran gets hit less than chavez will and would win on the cards.
Dejusus, Buchanan, and Mamby(albeit before he got the success he did later but he was still good against Duran) were mediocre? Im sorry but you're one of the worst posters on here.
Hey Mag what did Duran ever do to you? You can see a Duran thread without trying to shoot him down as overrated etc etc. I think your hate for Duran is stronger than your love for the Hit Man.
Thank you for the history lesson , and I stand by my 1st comment. Duran is the greatest lightweight of all time. Peace out.
They were all B level boxers. Duran couldn't even beat Buchanan, that Duran got desperate and fouled Buchanan with an intentional low blow, to cheat his way to an unjust win, that really should've been a DQ loss for Duran. Mamby and Dejesus were B+ boxers with padded records. Mamby would not make it to the top 10 rankings in Chavez's era. He only made it up the rankings in Duran's 1970's era, cause the 135lbs was weak during thew 70's. Duran would not last in the ring with Chavez. Chavez breaks down Duran's will through the fight, that Duran would quit and/or cheat with an intentional low blow (like he did to Buchanan) against Chavez. go to 3:01 and you'll see Duran intentionally fouled Buchanan with an intentional low blow, cause Duran's "hands of stone" couldn't put Buchanan out in the previous 12 rounds. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RzLqn9Uqto&feature=related[/ame] Tommy Hearns exposed Duran's semi-glassy chin. Julio Cesar Chavez would've swallowed Hearns' right and kept on coming to Hearns, brutalizg Hearns with savage bodypunches, that Hearns would quit in his corner from broken ribs (like Roger Mayweather did in '89) in the later part of the fight.
