I know. I know. I didn't bring it up someone else did. Against Chavez, I think Duran might become the aggressor anf Chavez would box believe it or not. Chavez was a good boxer, he just never really wanted to or had to.
No I do not hate Duran. You guys on the board sometimes think when someone says something about a great boxer and that he is overrated a bit, that he is hated. I don't know Duran. He has a great personality and a tough and great fighter at lightweight and above when he had the right styles. But these threads are about greatness and Duran and who he fought. People say stuff like he would knock out Chavez like it would be easy, yet he only beat one other great. So why wouldn't my opinion pertain to this argument? I just do not think he is 1-5 ATG and I think he is overrated for 1-5 ATG, as all of you know now. I have said I think he is 20-25 rated. I am not sure where thinking someone is overrated a bit means I hate him. I don't. Look on a recent thread about Donald Curry and Mike McCallum, I said Duran would have beat Mike in 1984. I think he would have with Mike's style and he only had 20 fights in 1984 when he would have challenged Duran for Duran's WBA 154 pound title. And as for Chavez, I think he is great also. Dominant, yet I do not think he is 1-5 ATG either. It is just my strong opinion that neither Duran or Chavez were 1-5 ATG. 20-25 ATG
Duran did not have a glassy chin at all. He had a solid chin and a great ability to take punches during exchanges, which many guys cannot do. They get so caught up in the exchange that they lose focus and get hit clean by punches they do not see. Duran did have a great ability to see punches when he was fighting inside fights. So I am giving him credit for that, since most people say I never see his good qualities. As for the Hearns knockout , the reason it was so impressive was because someone actually stopped Duran. Tommy knew he could hurt Duran because of his speed and leverage, but Duran being knocked out against Hearns does not lower his ranking to take a punch at all. As a matter of fact he took some of Hearns best punches before he was stopped. Had Chavez taken the same punches Duran did against Hearns, he would have been stopped in round one. Duran had a great chin, one of the best probably. And mistaking Roger Mayweather with a great like Thomas Hearns is why you think Chavez would keep coming forward after being hit clean.
yeah.. Tommy Hearns KO's Terry Norris in 30 seconds, Duran the quitter KO's Chavez in 2 rounds lol... the ******ation in these types of threads is very ****ing high
When did I say Duran knocks out Chavez? I better go look back at my thread. I didn't say that at all. I said Chavez might outbox Duran. And I said Hearns in that other thread would stop Norris. Norris had a weak chin and Hearns was not the guy to fight when the other guy had a weak chin. Hearns right hand would land on Norris.
Duran would have **** chavez, the man was a beast at 135............."mano de piedras"="hands of stones"
