Duran by close competitive decision. I think he would be able to use his slightly superior counter-punching to open up offensive opportunities easier than Chavez at mid-range. But chest to chest at 135, Chavez is matching him in power, probably matching him in speed, and probably matching him in skill on the inside (though I could see some arguing he's even the superior)...which is why with Chavez's durability thrown in, I think it ends up being close.

 

Duran by close decision in a FOTC candidate.

 

Anyone predicting a stoppage either way needs to sort themselves out. Nobody is budging in this one.

 

Duran by competitive but clear decision. He's just a more skilled, more athletic boxer than JCC Sr, and just as tough.

Though looking back at my post, I feel like I sold Chavez a little bit short. It's not a slight to Duran to concede Chavez edges the pure in-fighting ability and skill. It'd be interesting to see how much of the fight takes place there, and how Duran would react when he comes to realize that. As dexterous as he was at picking opponents apart, he could be... A little stubborn.

 

Definitely agree on that last part...spent "longer in 2nd or 3rd gear than was needed", as lora put it.

Honestly, because there is plenty of film I need to catch up on before taking a serious gander at that one. There were some really deep posts in that thread. I'll be sure to bump it though. :deal

Chavez makes him quit. Duran's resume is **** at LW, he never saw anything close to JC Superstar and JCC, all romantic bull**** and mustache love aside, would beat the dog**** out of him.
