Typical argument, just because there are people who pick Pacquiao against Duran, does not mean they have not seen Duran fight. I have seen Duran fights.

I don't mind someone making a plausable agrument that Pac could win, but knocking Duran's comp isn't the way to go about it.

But I will say this, if Pac doesn't get sucked into Duran's type of fight and uses his speed and doesn't start trading with him and trying to beat him on the inside, cause he ain't going to win that way, then he had a change to out point Duran.

My thoughts are that Pac's too proud to fight like this and his style is quite similar to Duran's in many ways, but no way does Pac have the same level of power or the same level of infighting defense that Duran has, so he can't get sucked into that kind of fight.

But this idea that Duran's comp is somehow sub par to Pac's simply because he fought at a higher weights and lost some of the matches and fought fighters who have now been established as ATG's by virtually everyone is a pretty goofy argument. After all he's not universally recognized at one of the top 10 ATG's for nothing. And it's honestly an extreme tribute to Pac that this kind of dicussion is taking place considering Duran's lofty status.

Like someone else said, let's see what middleweight Pac's beating when he's 37, and then we can discuss it.

Sure it is. Duran's comp was weak at LW, MUCH weaker than Manny's, and that's what you're basing his greatness on. His comp is very relevant. When he stepped up to HOF fighters, he lost every time but once. EVERY time. Also, this talk about Duran being smaller than the welterweights he fought is absolute bull****. He was small at welterweight the way Manny would be small at LW right now, which is NOT AT ALL. He lost those fights because they were better fighters. PERIOD.

Duran stepping to MW is the same, comparatively, as Manny fighting at WW, so you already have something to compare.

His comp is relevant only in the sense that it's better than Pac's. If you're trying to convince me and anyone on this site that Pac beating Cotto and Margarito is anything special in relation to Duran beating Leonard, you're wasting your breath. It's a ridiculous argument that's borderline pathetic. Don't believe me start a poll and let's see what other boxing fans think.

    I dare you.

As for the lower weights, there's already a thread that compares Esteban de Jesus against JMM and most pick Esteban to win. and JMM is certainly one of Manny's best oponents.

I just finished reading that thread and you actually believe that there's some kind of conspiracy to pick Esteban over JMM just to boast my agrument...you've lost your mind..nobody but us gives too ****s about what we're talking about, never mind a conspiracy of Duran fans ganging up on JMM to bolter anyone's agrument.

So if you disagree how about you answer this question, why is it that Duran is considered an ATG and the IBRO has him ranked 6th on the ATG list and 2nd on the lightweight list.

Is the whole boxing community wrong and you're right? Is that your argument?

Cause that's all I've heard so far.

It's really a bit silly to try knocking Duran to the extent that you're trying to do when basically the entire boxing community disagrees with you.

people really will do anything they can to bring duran down a notch?

David Diaz is better than Ishimatsu, DeJesus, Buchanan, Kobayashi, Marcel?

    That's real bull****.

I'm a massive Duran fan, but some people on here write as though he was God. He has some awful losses on his record (Laing etc.) was not as dedicated as he should have been and lost three out of four of his defining fights. However, at his peak he was P4P no 1 in the world, and absolutely dominated his era at lightweight, and it wasn't as weak an era as some seem to make out.

Manny is my favourite fighter today, and a shoe-in top 30 ATG. To compare him to Duran is a great compliment. He would give Duran a fight, but not his hardest fight. A prime motivated Duran to win by decision by a clear 3-5 rounds, or by late TKO.
