Buchanan was a beautiful boxer. Very elusive and tall with nice reach for the division. His footwork was awesome to watch.
Your point? It is no more Leonard's fault that Duran didn't properly prepare for the rematch than it is Duran's fault that Leonard allowed himself to get psyched out by Duran's macho bullisht. The difference is, a 'mentally thrown off' SRL, while not using his 'superior physical advantages like (height and reach), not to mention his exceptional skills, speed, athleticism and respected power', still kept the fight close, whereas a self induced 'mentally and physically unprepared' Duran got frustrated, potshotted, bolo-punched, clowned and 'No Mas'-ed himself into boxing infamy. So again, what is your point?
My point? Oh ****, you didn't get it? My point is that you left out key points to both matches. You're only using what benefits your argument. I'm not trying to prove who's more at fault. All I'm saying is that I can make up excuses for Duran as well. Let's look at it this way. Leonard lost due to "mental" mistakes. Duran lost due to physical/conditioning. You tell me what's worse ? And as for the overall analysis of the fight. Just pointing out that even though Leonard was young, he was facing a guy in which he had his own advantages. And plenty. Still lost though. Duran beating Leonard is one of the greatest wins of all time. As for Leonard's re-match "win"...Leonard to this day, is not satisfied . You tell me why? 1st match - Duran (top shape) vs Leonard (top shape) = Leonard loss, over mental breakdown. 2nd match - Duran (out of shape) vs Leonard (top shape) = Duran loss, over physical/conditioning (in which Leonard admits he took advantage of) Seems like it's a bit unbalanced to me lol!
Calm down. Rating Floyd second tier doesnt mean I think he's a club fighter. The tiers rate only the ATG's skill sets and they only consist of 10 fighters. My first tier in terms of all round skill I place boxers like Duran, Robinson, Naples, Leonard, Pep etc. My second tier I would place Floyd with guys like Benitez. Floyd isn't all round skilled enough to be placed top tier Imo. Floyd will be a top 30 ATG so placing him second tier is giving him credit.
Whatever 'excuse' you want to point to, one guy fought through his for a close loss while the other guy quit. When you say the words 'Duran versus Leonard', 97% of folks will remember 'No Mas' before Duran having 'one of the greatest victories of all time'. An ATG getting clowned and then turning his back not wanting to fight anymore and then blaming 'stomach cramps' and 'orange juice' tends to leave a lasting impression. FACT. Leonard - Close Loss; Duran - Didn't want to fight anymore. Yeah, it's unbalanced alright. :smoke
^ No, you can't. Nothing in Mayweather's career suggests he could deal with Duran's style and Floyd has never fought at an opposition level near a peak Duran. If you really think Mayweather could have taken Duran, find a new sport to analyze. Not saying don't watch and enjoy boxing, but don't try to understand the details of the game if you don't want to even understand basics. Feints/Pressure/Jab/Varied attack/Unlimited stamina/Power/Defense as a combination = tear Mayweather and any philly shell style like his up.
Mayweather beats Duran is like saying Froch beats a prime RJJ, when we watched Froch beaten to the punch and schooled by Andre Dirrell. We've seen Mayweather in close fights with Castillo, 1 of which was a robbery, DLH and competitive with Cotto, Cotto even bloodying his nose w/jab and having him on the ropes for extended spots. All levels and levels below the Duran of LW and the Duran of Montreal, as started with the OP. We've seen Duran take a prime SRL at Welterweight, who was a superior fighter to Mayweather - more durable, comparable speed and skills and much more punching power at Welter. We've seen him take apart and KO Buchanan, De Jesus and many other examples. The guy has the perfect style to take apart Floyd. Yet this is a 15 page debate with *****'s getting their clocks cleaned and coming back for more while typing up useless nonsense that's indefensible if you actually know what you're looking for. There is no way this fight is even competitive, Mayweather gets destroyed.
Yes. Barkley,Moore and hagler were solid punchers in the middelweight divisions.Duran has a granit chin. Just a funny thought. Could you imagine Floyd at middleweight against the 6 foot 1 Iran Barkley? Barkely would have absolutely destroyed Floyd.
Doesn't have to. Skills pay the bills. And add to that with the fact that Floyd doesn't crumble under pressure or when faced with adversity.
And what about Duran then hm? Duran fought much bigger men like Barkley or Hagler. These guys would have killed little Floyd.:rasta
