Roberto Duran Vs Mike Tyson: Who had more Heart?

Duran may have quit against Leonard in their second fight, but at least he didn't get DQed by biting a chunk off of the man's ear.

They both had disgraceful moments, but Duran had more proven moments of winning tough fights and showing his heart in them.

Tyson showed heart in some of his losses, but more in the sense that he took his beatings like a man.

 

duran quit because he felt foolish chasing a guy who he thought did not want to fight. he was not hurt, he was not scared and he said "**** you i didnt come here to dance". tyson stuck around for his beatings when his head was buzzed by a punch because he couldnt think straight enough to find a way out. if he was getting his ass kicked with a clear head he would find a way to pull himself out of that ass whooping.
its like dogs, a curr who gets in a fight will growl and scream and bare his teeth like hes demon possesed and then quit if that doesnt work. a game dog doesnt even like to bark, he just wants to get close to the other dog. duran was dead game.

Duran proved he had heart by coming back from getting dropped by DeJesus in the first round of their 2nd fight and stopping DeJesus, and when he went through a tough, back-and-forth fight in Leonard I and in the fight with Barkley. Tyson never came back from getting hurt or dropped, he never cam out on top in a tough, back-and-forth fight. Tyson had a solid chin, enough to where he could take a beating when he had to, but he never had the heart to come back from that beating.

 

Duran, definitely.

I see your point with this thread and tend to agree. I've always said that Tyson took his beatings like a man and kept on going. Douglas, Holyfield and Lewis all whipped his ass and he stood there and took it.

Rewatch those fights, those were some ass kickings and Tyson kept coming.

Tyson showed real heart against Lewis - there is no way he needed to take the beating he did...

 

Personally I don't look at being able to change the course of a fight as heart. Heart is perhaps where you keep going and it is a totally and utter lost cause. That the only hope of the fight changing is through something extraordinary happening. Fighting on when you still have a remotely realistic chance of winning the fight (with your immense skills) is sense imo - not heart - heart can be totally irrational.

 

The count for Tyson and the so called long count for Douglas are exactly the same length of time.

Tyson just got whipped that night.
