Tyson quit on his tool against Mc Bride on the 7th round in 2005 and on the 4th against Danny Williams in 2004 (citing knee injury) . . . now . . . have you ever heard Duran quit in his whole career until he retired in 2001? That should give you people . . . a clear answer. :deal
Tyson was gone by the time he was 23, let alone nearly 40. Duran may well have burned the candle at both ends, outside the sport, but Tyson ate it.
WELL then . . . Tyson should have stopped fighting when he knew he was done. For what ever reason he continued to fight and was forced to quit on his tools. Let's not justify why he quit on his stool . . . I'm just answering the thread. Duran has showed more heart than him . . . and take note I'm also a Tyson fan.
I'm not really arguing against Duran, I've just seen a lot of threads on here questioning Tyson's boxing heart - and I think that unfair.
people tend to forget theirs many things in life that happend outside of the boxing world... what tyson has gone in life, many would have not survive, and have most likely be in prison for life, suicide, addicts... so many obstacles to overcome and yet he always step on that ring no matter what... I don't think he was a quitter at all...
Both guys had heart and guts. Someone said Roberto Duran off the record said he did No Mas because he had diarrhea, and it was either quit, or crap in his pants right then and there. Don't know if it's true, but I heard that. I believe it. Roberto Duran was so old when he said No Mas. The guy started fighting I believe in the 60's. Now, I don't take any credit from Sugar Ray Leonard, far from it, SRL was one of the greatest fighters ever. But, I don't think for one minute Duran was a quitter. You can't get any tougher than him. I don't think Tyson is a quitter either. He fought everyone he was supposed to fight. When Tyson lost Kevin Rooney and Cus D'amato, it wasn't the same. No way he would have quit with those guys in his corner. Can you imagine Kobe trying to win without Phil Jackson?
duran said "no mas" because ray leonard was frustrating him moving around and being a hard target... duran wanted to make it a brawl, but gaved up saying he show up to fight, not chase someone around...
Well if that's your point I have to agree . . . we cannot question the guy's fighting heart . . . he kept fighting even after his loses . . . until his body can no longer bear the punishments. They both have tremendous fighting heart . . . but Duran showed more . . . as per thread question.
Tyson had more heart. Tyson didn't quit in his prime because he wasn't winning, he took all his beatings till the end.
