Roberto Duran vs. Nicolino Locche

Yeah, it was on a Friday, the next day CBS telecast the Duran vs Fernandez title bout. Later on the local evening news broadcast his death, I was a senior in high school. We went to school year round, with week ends and holidays off. Every 9 weeks, we had 3 weeks off.

 

Locche didn`t throw as many right hands as Laing, Leonard or Benitez, I don`t include Sims as he was useless and Duran was all over the place in that fight, Laing v Duran early on leading to fustration, early on Laing threw hardly any punches and had a longer reach and more power than Locche, name one fight where Locche stuck and moved like Ray did in the no mas fight, no way could Locche hit Duran without being countered, Locche mostly slipped punches without countering Duran was a better counter puncher than Locche and had better hand speed than anybody Locche fought, Benitez threw better counter combo`s than Locche did and fought Duran at 154, Locche waas a small fighter and would have been destroyed by Hearns if he fougt in that era and moved up to welter, Duran fought bigger and more dangerous opponents than Locche, he didn`t pose that kind of threat.

 

Locche would knock Duran out before Duran had a chance to quit.
