You know I believe most of these posters think of the Duran style as the boxerpuncher style he had after Montreal. He fought nothing like he did up to and through Montreal. The prime 70s Roberto did not lay back. His head was on his opponents chest. Everytime the opponent breathed he smelled Durans breathe. His ferocity was unmatched. He made quality opponents into second raters by his talent alone. On this board incredibly, Duran is the most underrated fighter ever. I have never found any fan who lived through and followed Duran throughout the 70s who did not KNOW Duran was a once in a lifetime fighter. Buy his career set listen to the original complete fights and even the announcers as early as 1974 are saying about Durans greatness. Listen to announcers at Arguello and Zarate and other's fights in the 70s and hear the announcers say, "Besides lightweight champion Roberto Duran, so and is considered the best fighter......". There is no comparison between the 70s lethal lion DURAN and the lay back and wait counter puncher of the 80s. ANNNNDDDD, Durans power at lightweight was ultra great. I could see Duran vis a vis any lightweight great in history scoring a knockout or wide decision.
No. He was not. And it would not. Then after Duran flattens him, fatass Duva will rush DURAN and Roberto would knock him out.
let me clarify...I think Whitaker is just that good...he's #2 at lightweight for me. How can you not be impressed by Pernell
I feel like you’re saying this with No Mas. The scorecards in the fight weren’t as wide and embarrassing for Duran as the Leonard media hype has led people to believe. At LW, Duran was a complete phenom - feints, footspeed, aggression, focus, inside skills, carried his power into late rounds. Pete would have to go through some extremely career-high hellacious moments. I’m convinced that Pete has the chin, skills, speed and smarts to survive Duran (as in see the final bell) and can see him frustrating Roberto, but I favour Roberto and will advise that if Pete tries to play with Duran of Dejesus III, he could potentially ignite a controlled fire that burns him up.
