But did Pea have the power to make a iron chinned LW monster in Duran respect his punch?

Duran respected nobodies power at LW, even DeJesus who knocked him down twice

Duran for me, I see that right hand of his landing a good amount and I really think some amount of power is necessary to beat him. Whitaker really doesn't have any, and his power isn't underrated, he's actually just a shitty puncher albeit a brilliant boxer.

He wont have to walk through Whitaker`s punches because SweetPea is going to be missing and Duran is going to be on top of him with either hand punching.

Its a good matchup. Pea was one of the greats. He would try all the right things but Duran`s speed and boxing ability at lightweight would offset Whitaker`s own slickness.

    Duran W12 with a KD.

Whitaker UD, just too hard to hit, quicker, better jab and better use of angles. Duran's footwork is very quick but I don't think he can get off quick enough, I think Whitaker reads his movements too and counters them

Did he have a poor chin before that brutal KO though? I think that's the sort of KO that could ruin your punch resistance

No not really, nice lateral movement, use of range and jab but clearly surpassed by Whitaker for me

The lightweight division is very top heavy with atg fighters but the more I think of fantasy matchups the more I can't think of anyone who I'd favour to beat sweet pea.

I'm undecided between pea and armstrong but I think i'd favour him over anyone else.

I see Duran winning by a very close decision. Roberto always had trouble with slicksters such as Pernell, but his strength would see him through..........Just !

It's going to be an exceptionally close fight IMO, and aggression trumps defence in these type of mega-close rounds. I like Duran.

It is a terrific match up ... Whitaker has the skills and style to outbox Duran. He was simply that terrific ... however I can also see Duran, if in top condition, a big if, utilizing his vastly under rated speed and defense to put tremendous pressure on Whitaker .. I don't think Whitaker could badly hurt him but he could sting him enough to make him respect him ... a very tough call ...

Tendler fight is good footage of close-to-his-prime Benny.

He looks good but not as impressive as Duran or Whitaker.

Prime vs Prime I love Duran, Roberto was fast and had an inside and outside attach that Pernell may have seen vs Chavez (Inside) and Delahoya (Outside) difference is Duran had serious one punch power, much more significant than either and also great combo puncher on the attack. Duran could stop Sweat-pea late if Sweat Pea stands a little to fight but if Pernell decides to fight defensively he loses by UD

Duran clearly never had serious one punch power. Most of his lightweight title fights went into the late rounds. Duran was an accumulation puncher. When talking about serious one punch power, you'd have to discuss Hearns and Tyson among others.

Duran was heavy handed, but needed to wear opponents down. He wasn't the type who would land clean power punches during the early rounds when his opponent was fresh and knock him out. Not on a regular basis anyway.
