That answers your question although I don't see Duran winning here. Sure he would present an uncomfortable style for Robinson but so would Robinson to Duran and even more so.
people think I am unfair to Duran in my ratings of him. I love Duran's attitude and spirit for boxing, and he was great and dominant and ferocious, but his wins against greats is lacking no matter what. El Bujia and Duranimal and other posters are going to get on my case again but- the fact is he had a decent lightweight reign, but no win over a great fighter there. He had one win over Ray when Ray fought his fight, and Ray then outclasses Duran in the rematch and rubbermatch, and would have beaten Duran everytime out after the first fight- which is clear this is the case. It was always Ray's call. This is proven by how easily Benitez beat Duran only a year after Leonard beat Duran in the rematch. The criteria for beating great fighters like SRR is has a fighter beaten other greats in dominant fashion? Did Duran? The answer is no, no matter how much talk there is.
Well i dunno what senya posted but another take of Duran vs Robinson at 47 would be his own handlers Ray Arcel and Freddie Brown probably laughing at you for faqvering Roberto I can't imagine Ray complaining about a rough evening from Angott or Fritz. If im wrong let me know? Maybe Servo when he was pre prime.
Robinson said he learned a lot from Zivic although he beat him comfortably both times. Angott was never truly able to get anything going against Robinson in any of their 3 fights and was reduced to spoiling in order to survive.
Servo obviously gave him a very tough time, but that doesn't really pertain to this matchup so it'd be pointless for me to bring up.
Wait this is ringing a very strong bell now.... Randy Gordon asking Freddie Brown about Roberto vs Robinson and Freddie laughed and walked away.
Ray Robinson was the greatest welterweight to ever step foot in a prizering without question. The man was phenominal at 147. He had it all. Roberto Duran was not in his league at WW. I think Duran gets slightly overrated at times. great fighter no doubt but not a Ray Robinson. Too many people get carried away by his performance against Leonard in Montreal which was a fantastic one for Duran but let's not lose sight of the fact that it was razor close. Ray fought Duran's fight and almost won. He took the last 3 rounds which almost did it for him. In thier rematch Ray fought his fight and looked what happened so I think we should look at Duran's foray into the welterweight division with a more analytical rather than emotional eye. Great win for Duran but it's not a good barometer as to how he would do against the original Sugar Ray who was better than the second Sugar Ray. Robinson would beat Duran. Either by decision or late round stoppage. Duran would have his moments for sure but he would be up the against the greatest pound for pound fighter the sport ever saw. Oh and that goes for the two of them meeting as MW's as well.
Yeah, it's not possible they just didn't feel Ray had a chance, being that they were Duran's handlers and had just saw him put forth maybe the greatest performance of all time. This doesn't really prove anything.
