Duran of the Moore fight vs Maravilla at 154 lbs. 15 rounds. Who wins?

Martinez, Duran wouldn't have the legs to chase him down or the reach to box with him

Duran would have a lot of counter-oppertunities with the amount of leather Martinez throws. That said, Martinez has a lot of heart, can move and is a big man.

Martinez by UD, sweeping most of the last rounds. A much bigger man with too much overall quality for the smaller Duran.

Edit: Wait -- at 154? It's closer here. I'd make Maravilla a favorite, but not such a big one.

Kind of weird that I was thinking about this match up earlier, however I had 160 in mind. I believe Duran's chances increase considerably despite it only being 6 pounds. An incredibly edgy start, thats for sure, however I think Sergio's work rate may be enough to be the deciding factor in the later rounds. Could go either way but I'll take Martinez by Split decision.

I'd also predict that it the overall verdict would be determined very much by the way people score rounds ala Hopkins-Calzaghe.

I believe Duran will have an opportunity to actually drop Martinez around the 9th or 10th rounds. Duran would cut the ring off on him and force Martinez to the ropes. Duran was not one of the cleanest fighters so when Martinez gets cute, Duran will have made him pay. Something else to consider and throw in. Duran was a very popular fighter so if it is close, who do you think they are going to give the nod to. Also, I don't think speed will be a factor and Martinez has pop, but does not throw it in combos. More like haymakers that a experience pro like Duran will counter. I'm talking about them being at 160. 154, Duran all the way. Duran was relentless, fast, and powerful that night of the Moore fight. Martinez has yet to have a fight of this magnitude for anyone to say he could have beaten a Duran at 154. He almost got raped at that last round with Chavez, Jr.

Good fight, was thinking about this fight earlier as well actually. Martinez was more mobile at this point, but Duran was still explosive enough to take advantage of those moments Martinez is pulling back or side-stepping, and rush him with counters and inside work. Can't pick a winner, have to think about it more.

I'd probably edge towards Duran. Martinez could well be too big and too mobile for this more flat-footed version of Roberto, but I'd expect to see a lot of success at countering for Duran. Probably not an easy fight to score.

Duran of the Moore fight would beat the Martinez of the Chavez fight. Martinez is good, but not in Duran's class or level. Duran was good at 154 and much better than Chavez now. I know that fight with Chavez was 160, but tactically Martinez would not be much different. I think Duran lands his right hand and stops Martinez in the late rounds.

real bad fight for Duran here. Martinez answers back and moves out, Duran answers but stands and trades and mocks :verysad

That'd be the difference here IMO and Martinez takes a clear competitive decision.

Duran is way better than Chavez Jr. Hell, Julio Jr almost repeated his father's final round come from behind KO. Duran is a much better finisher than he was. I say Duran by late round stoppage or a competitive but clear win for Duran.

Yeah Martinez is good in the era but boxing has devolved radically in a short period of time (last 20 years). Martinez is too loose with his defense Duran catches him.
