Duran beat SRL for the title in his next fight 4 months later. (Great when we had all the good fights on home TV, ...ABC WW of Sports, CBS Sports Spectacular & NBS Sportsworld).
We'd get the highlights of all the big fights on the following saturday on ITV usually at 2.15pm/2.45pm squeezed inbetween the horse racing & wrestling Yep happy days indeed:yep
Duran ships pretty big punches here without losing stride. Hard man to go blow-for-blow with, even at welterweight.
Duran was one of the greatest of the 70's on and I have seen them all. He was not always at his best but when he was he was a hard man to beat and one of the most intimidating for opponents
I didn't remember Duran looking too good in this one (or in many of his Welterweight fights pre-Leonard; probably why the commentators mentioned something about Duran trying to silence the critics who'd been saying as much). The re-watch proved my memory to be pretty sound. Hell of a finishing combo, though.
This fight took place on February 24,1980 one month and eleven days after his previous fight which took place on January 13,1980 against Joseph Nsubuga.
