It was whatever he said it was, which is Muhammad Ali.

Yeah, he was so passionate about it then he hadn't officially registered it as his new name. Official letters to his house were addressed 'Cassius Clay'. So that was still his name. That's how much it meant to him- yeah right. I mean he allowed members of his entourage to call him Clay so why not an opponent?

    Bizarre.

I wasnt going to grace this post with a reply, but I still have a few minutes before work so I will make three comments.

    1) Firstly, there is a lot more to Roberto Duran than the 3 Leonard fights. You might want to familarise yourself with his career from '67-'80, a 14 year time frame during which he fought over 70 fights, many against boxer / movers such as Buchanan, DeJesus and Leonard, and lost just once, on points. The points loss was avenged twice, by brutal KOs.

    2) Duran behaved disgracefully at times and was a complex man. However, this criticism can be applied to any number of boxers who emerged from the wrong side of the tracks.

Duran emerged victorious and loved from a difficult, impoverished background. His story, his athletic prowess, his boxing skills, his longevity, his ferocity and his dragon slaying in the 80s is the stuff of legend.

    3) Your post is hypocritical, out of the ring Alis behavious was despicable. He mis-treated his wives, whom he cheated on serially, and thereby not just hurt them, but ruined their lives and the lives of his children.

Ali did it in a playful way. Duran was nasty about it. Ali never made lude jestures to opponents or refused to shake an opponents' hand after a fight. This is a different animal.

Because I know what happens when I answer something with something serious. The discussion would totally deviate from the original theme, like always and you would like always come with your bizarre views of the world.

Well, the reason I now have this dislike for Duran has nothing to do with hisoutside exploits, just his outrageous display after this fight. I know it sounds wierd that I would judge him from one fight, so maybe I should just show it.

I've never seen Ali act like this after a fight. The arrogance, and the big chip on the shoulder just turned me off. Comparing this to what Ali does in the ring is just insane.
