We all know that Garcia is a great trainer, but what was he like as a fiighter? How was he thought upon at the time he was fighting? And how will his fighting career be remembered? Edit - Why did he retire so early?
He was a great fighter as well. He had great battles with Corrales and Casamayor. Try to check them out when you have a chance. Much respect to Robert Garcia.
He started boxing at a very early age, before turning 30 he already has the nickname grandpa for being around for so long.A classic mexican fighter-tough and courageous but limited skills-his brother Mikey looks a very improved version of himself.
he was a pretty good boxer puncher with a **** chin he was taking the fight to casa and corales before getting stopped.
he was smart and knew he had already done everything he could as a fighter, and wanted to start training full time....the dudes an all around badass
The guy had hand and foot speed to burn and it looked like he was going to outbox Corrales before Chico caught up with him. I think the Tackie loss, which was a BRUTAL knockout, broke his heart. Like others have said I think he realized he'd peaked. But he was a very good fighter at his best.
I think even now he's an underrated trainer. people point at Rios having no defense etc but you gotta remember you can't teach a rios to fight like floyd, he'll take some to give some no matter who trains him and he's doing great with his lil bro.
People say that Rios has no defense but it is very underrated. Alot of shots that land on Rios hit glove before they make it through or are picked off with his gloves. Robert is doing a great job with that guy.
