The Featherweight Robert Guerrero recently took out some journeyman in the first round, and will probably be most remembered for being IBF champion and knocking out Jason Litzau. He had a bit of a lay off due to his wife being diagnosed with cancer, but I really like the look of this kid. I think he has what it takes to be a real force at 126, and he has a big enough build to go up to 135. Any thoughts?
hes solid all around defense and offense I dont think hes the best boxer though.. I give him a 6-7 as compared to other elite level fighters currently or in the past.. nothing really stands out with him but hes solid all around and is a lefty I just dont think he can compete against the highest level..
I would have liked to have seen him clear out 126 before moving up, but you're right, Soto vs Guerrero is a great fight. I would favour Robert because I think he has the more polished skills, and looks to be able to take a good shot himself. I like Guerrero.
He seems to be more focused since his wife got sick, which is a good thing. He used to have massive brain farts, and take rounds off, which looked like his downfall. Now that he's staying focused, I think he has a better outlook.
He got KO'd by some guy on a PPV undercard -- I know the dude got fined for steroid use but he was still whoop'n Guerrero's ass. I never thought that highly of him to begin with .... he lose to a journeyman in gamilile diaz ... I think that he isn't much when pressured -- and the 130 lb division will prove that --
I think if anything, the 130lb division will prove that Guerrero was struggling to make weight at 126, and that he is one of those cases where a fighter gets better and better. Lots of great fighters from the past started off with losses, but Guerrero overturned that loss with an easy KO in the rematch. As far as being KO'd, he has never been knocked out. Robert is a big guy, and you can see that with his frame he could be fighting at 140 in the future. He will be better at 130lb.
It was turned into a no contest but i'm sure if you're a true fan of guerrero that you will remember that fight. the guy had like 10 L's on his resume and busted "the ghost" up from post to post.
Gamboa would knock Guerrero out ... and I don't think that highly of Gamboa but in this fight Guerrero would be tailor made for him. Linares would beat him ... Valero would literally kill him in the ring ... Guerrero is the type of fighter that would make a good fight with someone like Rocky Juarez ... Soto would beat him --
Not all fighters start off great, but Guerrero is clearly a better fighter than when he was fighting a steroid user in Salido at 126lb. I don't rate Soto too highly, I think he was dominated by Guzman, and hasn't beat any world class fighters. Gamboa is getting knocked down by every fighter he has fought, he is clearly open to counters even from fighters with lesser handspeed than himself. Linares has stopped fighting live competition, so it is hard to grasp how good he really is. I think it is easy to look on Boxrec and come to the conclusion that Guerrero is the type of fighter to lose at the highest level. However, I've seen a few of his recent fights, and too me, he was either struggling at 126 or he is just improving with every fight. Good handspeed, he's a big strong Featherweight/Super-Featherweight, that has decent shot variation with the left straight and uppercut. Good power, knocking everybody out at the moment. I'll be interested to see how he developes.
