Just read on fighthype about reporters condeming deakin as worlds worse boxer etc, crap, journeymen are basicly non ticket sellers, some aint even trying to win a fight, as if they do, the phone can stop ringing, or it rings with a much tougher opponent on the end of it, for the same money. Them journalist need to do research, as it seems like Robin Deakin has got the worlds worse ones on his case. :-(
Tbh I would like to see Robin Deakin retire before he gets hurt, spoke to him briefly at a show at the St Andrews Sporting club in 2012 and he was slurring his words badly and imo looked a bit punch drunk. He is only 27 years old and think he is seriously deluded, I'm sure I read on one of these forums that he has been unlucky and has the talent to succeed. I just don't see it and watched that night as a Super Featherweight Andreij Pudosovs gave away height, weight and experience and still beat him up forcing him to retire after a couple of rounds!! There needs to be something done to help kids like Robin, he is a journeyman who doesn't know he is one! Imo he hasn't tried to learn how to be an effective journeyman, slipping , blocking and messing the opponents around but because he believes that he has ability and has been unlucky he takes needless punishment that could well damage his health if he carries on fighting the way he does. If I was his coach I would have had a private word and try get him to use his experience to help others in the gym instead of fighting and getting hurt!! There are loads of decent journeymen but it is an art on its own and Robin Deakin does not do it justice. Just my opinion though.
Ahh yeah this was the guy derry was bullying on twitter about his legs and him not being able to walk or something until he was 6. Calling his boxing ability and trying to arrange a meet up for a fight. Class guy
Robin is a top wee lad who's a bit of a wind up merchant, promoters love him as I'm sure he's saved many shows fighting top lads at the drop of a hat. Let's face it not many have the character to do what he does and come back for more time and time again
I can see the point your making, but he doesent deserve that kind of very negative publicity, he will have bills to pay, and from the sound of his childhood health problems he deserves praise, not condemnation.
I don't agree in the way the press are giving him negative publicity and I know that everybody has bills to pay but that should not be in a way that will damage his long term health. I'm sure he could make decent money doing personal training for guy on the white collar circuit and help pay the bills?? I was unaware of his health problems as a child but if he doesn't get out of boxing soon he will have problems later in life too
He maybe did have talent when he was younger, there is many ways you can deteriorate. Maybe too many gym wars??
I can't tell...being sarcastic, or do you mean you think you once heard that but can't remember exactly?
What do you think about him carrying on Billy? If he was your fighter what advice would you give him?
Ah never mind, took a moment to Google it myself. You're right. "Courageous Robin, of East Tilbury, Es***, was born with a club foot and had 60 operations. He could not walk till he was six but immediately took up boxing and went on to win 40 of 75 amateur bouts." Don't know that I'd ordinarily call a 53% winning percentage 'very decent', but as compared with a 0.01% mark in the pros it truly is.
I personally i couldn't train journeymen has I hate being beat and couldn't go to a fight expecting to lose He's got to earn a living but if he's getting hurt while losing he should stop or the board will enforce it
Imo Peter Buckley was a proper journeyman, he didn't get hurt that much but could mess his young opponents around and had a good defence.
