Have enjoyed his career! Has never ducked a challenge, some great male modeling work, one of the most tremendous pikeys ever!
is he a pikey? I was wrong on that fight the other night, he's way more shot than I realised. He was involved in some good fights like the memorable Ottke one and the slugfest against Pretorius years ago.
He's been shot since before ottke. Was always overated. Someone said on Friday that Brian Hughes had said reid was going to retire no matter what after the fight, does that sound like a man coming to win? Doesnt to me, thought he quit on friday, basically wasnt too interested.
Bang on the money. Reid, as he left the ring and went through the ringside crowd, almost made a point of tapping fists with the RIGHT glove. Now, you wouldn't do that if you had an injury to your right shoulder. Still, Froch did what he had to do after an eight-month injury layoff.
Excellent fighter, severely underrated in my opinion. In my opinion he beat Calzaghe and Ottke. Was in some great fights too. One of our best super-middleweights.
I always liked Reid, he should have retired after that last chance against Lacy. I know he was shot before that but he had to give it one last go.
It was close with Calzaghe, but upon watching again (after a debate on here i think) Joe won. Just closer than the judges had it. He didnt beat Ottke either. He was treated poorly but even with the Kd in the 6th (was it) I still had Ottke one up. Was thoroughly beaten by the average malinga, which lost him the title he'd won out in italy (well done) against a fighter who was no great shakes and had been knocked out 5 times previous. he was handpicked to face Ottke as Ottkes "leaving present" He was losing to Brian Magee, only for Magee's chin to severly let him down. Even then red just about got through He was smashed to bits by Lacy He retired on his stool against Froch One fo our best? Yes, one of them, but I'd like to hear a case for him being higher than #5 post 90's British. Not a chance. He's bottom of the pile of the best (imo) ones.
You have to love him for what he was! He possibly has the biggest chip on his shoulder of any current boxer now that Calzaghe is finally getting some recognotion!
I like Robin Reid but I am glad he has chosen to retire. He is very tough of that there can be no doubt but his time has been up for a while. I would like to thank him for the entertainment he has given us and I hope he has success in whatever he choses to do from now on.
Yeah the post Lacy fight interview was only put up the other night, I think im right in remembering that they didnt show that on telly, either that or I just went straight to bed after the fight but they show the foul that put Robin down for the first time in his career and it was so blatant I dont know how Lacy wasnt chucked out or just given a points deduction, the ref was so gay in that fight he even gave Lacy a helping hand to get off the canvas when he fell during the fight when a week or two earlier Mike Tyson had asked the ref the same favour and the ref rightly told him he was to get up under his own steam Also, Lacys trainer Birmingham was acting like a little pr*ck and Lacy had me grinning about the Calzaghe fight
I always liked Reid, mainly due to following him through the Barcelona Olympics whenhe got his bronze medal. I remember how he always wore that headband with 'Grim Reaper' written on it with marker pen! He had a good career, deserves to get more recognition. Could be inconsistant but at his best was a true world-class operator. Probably should have retired after the Lacy loss, but better just a little too late than never.
