He's mad because Calzaghe was better than his hero Froch. It's caused him to post in every single Calzaghe thread on here for years. Very bitter and twisted.

you remember well mate. Reid was separated for nothing and warned for a blatantly obviously legal blow. He shrugged, and carried on! I honestly thought it was bad enough to pull Reid out if I was his corner! The worse case of biast reffing in the history of boxing imo. Reid would've been world champ with a neutral ref

Amazing, when Froch himself said 'id have to knock him out to win' . Froch is being refreshingly honest here really, half admitting he wouldn't ko joe and would be outpointed. Exactly how anyone who knows boxing would see it, fan or no fan....Frochs a monster, Calzaghe was a truly special adaptable monster who beats the best of the best if his backs against the wall...Joe never showed his true potential and was still better than Froch

He wasn't robbed v ottke he lost fair and square its a mothers tale that's grown over the years.

He did beat Calzaghe in my opinion but was pretty dumb outside the ring and admitted after the fight he felt he lost than went home saw the video and spent the rest of his life saying he was robbed. He also tried to get into porn later

How good was he? a very good solid world champion. a real champion.

I think he easily easily beats the likes of callum smith, groves.....and probably handles degale in his prime....which was around 1996-1999.

Strong, solid boxing skills, solid power.....

I enjoyed watching Reid at the time, his performances seemed a bit hot and cold though. I was rooting for him against Calzaghe, I remember thinking it was close but Reid landed the heavier shots, I'd have to watch it again. He seemed to fizzle out a bit which was a shame. seemed like a laid back type so maybe that was his problem, he didnt have the venom to come back and prove himself?

Reid was a top 3 fighter in his division at his peak and was on the cusp of being better with some decisions going against him like the Ottke and Joe fights who both rated 1 and 2 in that division. fell away towards the end but most do and id say he'd beat other SMW that came just after like Mundine, Green, Soliman, Beyer etc but a Kessler would destroy him which is strange because Kessler was beaten by Joe yet a peak Reid almost caused the upset.

    He was LOL

It was insane, I've never seen anything like that before or since, I've seen bad refereeing, poor stoppages, you name it but I'd never seen a referee blatantly tell a fighter not to throw punches and warn a fighter for fighting.

If I see clips of that fight now I still feel angry because it was that outrageous.

He could be really good sometimes and other times not really perform. It was strange really.
He was impressive when he won the title against Nardiello, impressive when defending against Pretaurious, and Wharton. Struggled with Cherifi in a performance where I seem to think I read after that he wasnt well, but he did tough it out and get the win and was good at times.
Did very little against Malinga when he lost the title. It was a fight where neither did a great deal and a fight that I think Reid could have taken easily at that time but he and Malinga just stood off.
The last time I saw Reid perform like he had previously was when he gave Calzaghe a decent fight, but after that Reid never seemed the same again and in my opinion never seemed to fight with the same intensity as he had previously. His fight after Calzaghe he didnt look very good at all. He then seemed to not get many big fights for a fair while after. He then got the Ottke title shot and although I didnt think he had the same sort of intensity as years previously, he boxed well and and many felt he deserved the decision.
I didnt think he looked great against Magee and wouldnt have argued the decision, but he did score KDs.

I dont think he was the same from the Calzaghe loss onwards

Wharton also beat Nardiello who became a SMW champ and Galvano who had been a SMW champ

I would have favoured prime Reid against Degale, but not the after Calzaghe version who didnt seem as intense in my opinion.

Reid was a natural counter puncher who seemed happier.

Here is what I call prime Reid against Pretaurius

The fight with Malinga where Reid lost was an odd fight where little happened

After the Calzaghe loss, which was a good performance even though I felt Calzaghe won a clear decision, Reid didnt seem the same after in my opinion
Below in his first fight after

Reid after losing to Ottke beat Magee but it didnt seem like the same Reid that was beating Wharton, Cherifi, Pretaurius, Nardiello

Robin Reid was a burn very bright for a very short time sort of elite fighter.

At his absolute peak he was a world beater, but he was not at his peak for long.

Although having said that with exception of his final fight and loss he was never beaten by anything other than elite level fighters.

I remember the Calzaghe fight and thought he nicked it by a point, but you could easily score the fight in Joe's favour by a point too. A draw was possibly a fair result.

In his prime a fight for anyone in SMW gave Joe one of his toughest nights (I scored it a draw watching it on tv and still get same scorecard watching it back)
Went on a bit to long and was in a stacked division most his career.
Robbed horribly against Ottke that ref I watched the fight with my dad and both of us where mystified.
In his prime he could beat any belt holder in the SMW division now.
