Was he doing porn? I’d love to do it but it would be more of a 20 second reel rather than a movie! A guy I was in the army with done it once but it was for a porn mag rather than a movie (20 years ago). He showed us as we thought he was lying, guy had a weapon Rambo couldn’t hold!
I saw him as an amateur at Cambrian ABC when I attended in the late 80's and I recall he was very different to the 'pro version. He should have been promoted better, he was personable, good looking, and could really fight, and punch, iirc didn't Froch say he was the hardest puncher he fought? He got absolutely bugger all for the JC fight (it's on the Tris Dixon Boxing Life Stories podcast), and he'd had too many defences in too short a time, he was knackered and probably burned out by the time of the Malinga fight. Genuine world champion, probably a little bit underrated and unfairly forgotten
A bit before my time but he reminds me of a John Ryder. Underrated and didn't always get the flowers he deserved.
Reid was also the reason Adrian Dodson/Carew had to box at Welterweight during the 92 Olympics. I think Warren got Reid the WBC title shot before he was ready, but like AJ and Charles Martin, Nardiello was too good an opportunity to turn down. This was also the period when Frank and Don King collaborated to create the bumper double-headed PPV cards in the UK and later in the USA, with Reid serving as an ideal filler for such events. I remember his first defence, which was on Naz's undercard when he unified against Johnson. Steve Collins and Mickey Cantwell also had title fights. For me, his best win, though, was against Wharton, but as someone else said, four or five title fights in a little over a year probably burnt him out. Plus, Malinga was a hard night for anybody during that time, unless, of course, your name was Roy Jones, and I'm sure Reid was enjoying his life outside the ring. Despite running Calzaghe and Ottke close, he arguably stayed in the game too long, but he clearly never earned what he deserved during his peak. This is not surprising, considering that during his brief title reign, he effectively operated under the Don King banner. Had he been around now, I believe he would have made a fortune.
Yes, I'd agree with all of that, first defence was the unbeaten South African iirc, Pretorius? Absolutely leveled him. Unusual in that he got the Olympic nod, despite never having won a national title (pretty sure anyway). Won a bronze medal, which is a seriously impressive achievement in and of itself. Agree he'd be marketed better now and should have had some serious paydays in line with his ability
That guy was a career light middleweight and Reid was lucky he was. It was his maiden defence to be fair though.
