This fight was ten years ago just wanted to ask you guys on your thoughts about this fight

Reid traveled to Florida to face then ibf super middle weight world champion lacy

What on earth happened to reid this night I heard he had problems in the build up

Reid was floored for the first time in his career the first time he had been down amateur or pro I think he was put down four times in all and his corner had seen enough at the end of the seventh round

he travelled to Italy and won the wbc championship he pushed calzaghe close and should have got the nod against ottke in Germany he beat then unbeaten brian Magee in Ireland so I just don't know what happened against lacy

He wasn't at the races that night

    Your thoughts please gentlemen

Sorry if I should have posted this in the classic forum wasn't sure!?!

    Many thanks kind regards

I trained with Reid for this fight. He was in good shape but he was starting to fade.

    Yeah

Trained at the Moston and Collyhurst gym for 5 years. Trained with Reid, Matty Hall, Mike Jennings, Dave Barnes Etc

    Good times

Yeah Reid was unlucky in a few bouts. Awesome fighter he was.

Were you part of his camp mate?.... You would know if he was starting to fade? I would agree with this notion but think he had a bit in the tank. I got the impression Rob was starting to belive the Lacey recking machine Hype and this played on his mind also the no where for him to train but this may be abit down to is team.... I duno all speculation on my part.
I think he still could of outpointed Lacey if his confidence was 100% and had a no fear attitude of old.

Wasn't really part of the camp but I was there a few days a week. I was only 15. Used to leave school at lunch time to go train with the pros in the day haha. His reflexes and legs were starting to dull I think at that stage but he was still capable. I agree though, Lacy haD a rep as a monster at that point and that played its part in Reids psyche.

Lacy had that rep and a it was a big part of his ****nal. His opponents feared his power and he believed they were all going to be lambs to the slaughter. When Calzaghe shattered that image and Jeff's confidence it was the beginning of the end for him. Throw in a few bad injuries an there you have it, a once p4p rated talent totally washed up.

I remember thinking that Reid could cause an upset. He was stitched up a bit on arrival, had no real training facilities and vaguely remember him having to work the pads beside a swimming pool?

Didn't they hand him a t-shirt saying 'I came all this way to get knocked out by Jeff Lacy.'

Will always remember Robin at his best and not for this fight.

Lacy was " that Good". A future HOF, and great, it took a fighter like Joe to beat him and ruin him.

I seem to remember the knockdown happen once the ref had told them to stop, Reid was caught with his hands down and the fight continued but then the ref waved it off.

There was a clip on YouTube of Reid complaining after the fight.

I think Reid was not himself for the fight, he was training by the pool in florida and he was fading a little.

I do think a peak Reid would have beaten Lacy

    Calzaghe ruined him
