Reid came closer to beating Joe than Mikkel Kessler did but styles make fights so I see TKO for Kessler
People overrate Reid because they compare him with Calzaghe in a fight in which both were relatively inexperienced and raw. Both became much better in the meantime, especially Calzaghe. The Kessler of today would get hit by a prime Reid's very good right hand but would have a lot more than Reid, generally, and should win by at least 5 rounds, I think.
He deserves more credit than just giving Calzaghe a hard time. I think he beat Ottke the most convincingly out of all of his " controversial decisions ". Without a doubt one of the worst robberies I've ever seen.
Kessler isn't stopping a prime Reid mate. Calzaghe laid a vicious assault on Reid for the first few rounds when he was still a puncher and actually nearly gassed out, thus the vulnerability in Reid's best rounds, this was when Calzaghe was still a puncher, throwing Eubank around like a ragdoll. Reid barely blinked at most of the stuff, guy had an IRON chin.
Yeah but here is a good comparison - Andrade chin = Reid chin Did Kessler KO Andrade? No, so anybody picking a stoppage against a prime Reid is not in the correct. Mostly because he's been stopped twice lately.
Interesting question. Kessler by UD IMO. Definitely no TKO or KO here. You can't knock out a prime Reid... Lacy hurt him with an illegal punch, Froch faced a 50% Reid, but in his prime, he was so tough that I don't see anyone knocking him out... Maybe Jones after landing a lot of quick, flush bombs and ref stops it... but I say he'd have made Roy fight for 12 rounds. Kessler would've frustrated him with his jabs and combos and blocking most shot coming back, but other then the Calzaghe fight, the prime Reid would've given the toughest fight to Kessler's career...
Not to mention he took some nasty shots directly on the kisser by Lacy, who for all his faults could really punch.
Eh? They fought after Reid had been a world champ he must have had close to 30 fighst by then. He wasnt raw he was pretty much peak. Calzaghe wasnt very raw either, he was winning handily (pardon the pun) till he broke his hand in the fith.
