Why did this fight not happen between these two? There was speculation after Steve Collins boxed Nigel Benn for the second time to match these two title super middle weight title holders?

No idea why it didn't happen but I believe Collins would have taken him apart

I think he'd outwork Reid who could be a lazy fighter at times, i remember when Reid floored Magee like 3 or 4 times then did virtually nothing after. And was amazingly lucky to win a decision despite that many knockdowns. Do you also remember his pathetic effort against an old Sugar Boy Malinga ? what a dreadful that was.

Overall i'm not trying to hate on Reid when he was on it he could be a very solid fighter, but i think Collins just had a bit too much for him overall.

Yeh he was pretty awful against Malinga but i was there for his fight against Calzaghe and on the night actually scored the fight in his favour. However after watching it again several times i now believe the result was correct. Reid v Collins would have been a terrific scrap but as i stated earlier think Steve would have won.Probably a close points decision

Reid was just to inconsistent for me. Collins on the other hand was a truth machine. He would wear Reid down and out IMO.

I thought Reid won the fight myself when i watched it awhile ago, for me Reid landed the cleaner more effective shots that rocked/hurt Calzaghe. But i have no real problem with Calzaghe getting the nod as the fight was close, but i do have a problem with the fact that there was no rematch.

Collins stated his intention to fight Reid immediately after the second Benn fight - but Reid distanced himself from the possibility in his response and didn't even back himself to win when the question was put to him. He also said he'd prefer a couple of defences of the WBC belt before he felt ready for Collins. Skip to about 50:22 of this video....

Bearing all that in mind, the window for the fight was pretty small as Collins only fought twice more and had vacated the title (and all but retired) within a year of that second Benn fight.
