What are people's opinions on Robin Reid?

Was just watching the Calzaghe fight and couldn't help but think Calzaghe was fortunate in getting the decision. Apparently Calzaghe overpriced himself or didn't offer Reid enought £ for the rematch!

Very lucky to be considered a world champion, took the title off a truely awful champion. Also very lucky to make it to the olympics , Calzaghe had won ABA titles in three different weights in 3 years. But the welterweight slot was always going to Reid. Won Bronze , made some money , but Euro level at best.

How was he lucky the division was terrible back then. He was unlucky not to be 2 time champion. Watch the Ottke fight Reid gets warned for punching Sven in the face :good.

I dont disagree with the Otkke point , I thought the referee was terrible. I just think that if he was to fight today he wouldnt pick up a belt. Below world level , but would be a good Euro level , ahead of a Magee( who he has beaten).

He is still looking for a comeback fight. He was looking at Tony Salam before he got banged up prior to Prizefighter.

    euro level at best?

:yikes reid was a world class fighter in his prime.you need to watch more of his fights.also, the comment you made above, ( about him being just a level above the likes of brian magee) is a load of bollocks.a shot reid dominated a prime magee and had him down a handful of times. talk about something you know about in the future.

    Ok,

Ive seen Reid fight live four times, SD Cherifi - was a middleweight, Malinga lost, Branco lost , Reid wins by about 3 points even though he puts Magee down 4 times. His biggest win was against Nardiello . To be world level you have to beat someone at world level which he never has. This is not a rant, just an analysis. The level he fought to was far greater than many boxers , just not world class , and Euro level is still very good.

    interestingly enough.

2 of the best smw's in history (calzaghe and ottke) both have arguably lost to reid. i do think reid won both fights actually.

so then he would have two world class victories on his resume.

funny one, if history could be slightly altered he may well be looked upon as the highest achieving SMW of all time.

Reid was a ****ing good fighter. I was never a fan of him though but he was a tough test for anyone.

Reid was a fantastic SMW, but was an odd character. If he had an on night he was amazing, but when he had an off night he was awful. He lacked consistency.
I felt Reid was a clear loser to Calzaghe as did most. People only make a case for Reid because they cant stand the thought that Joe was the real deal, who never got defeated.
Reid won his world title away in Italy becoming a WBC champ. If he had of got the decision over Ottke, which many think he deserved, he would have been WBC, WBA & IBF champ.
Reid also beat undefeated Brian Magee who is now European champ and WBA mandatory contender.
To watch how Reid could go from good nights to bad nights, watch when he won his title away and his first defence then watch when he just didnt do anything and lost to Malinga. Reid was never the same after losing to Calzaghe and never fought with the same intensity again. The Reid that fought Ottke wasnt the Reid of old.
    Good fighter who lacked consistency

Reid was always fun to watch, but i agree about his consistancy. Another man that came on the scene during a trough in the smw division.
