the problem with nostalgia is that it ALWAYS tops today I am not saying floyd would beat, or is better than srr, but i am saying that IF he was, he would never get credit for it
you said " nostalgia always tops today, and Floyd would never get credit " and I just said I think Sugar Ray Robinson is a better fighter than Floyd, and I'm 18 so nostalgia has nothing to do with it, and its not because of nostalgia why people think Robinson is the best it's because he is. :nono
Well Tuprin is a fully fledged MW with a MW's dimensions. Mayweather has NEVER fought a MW. When he fought a past-prime Oscar, the biggest man he ever faced, he was held to a split decision. Oscar may, or may not be better than Turpin pound for pound (it's close), but he is not actually better, being considerably smaller. So yeah, it should be obvious that Turpin is the natural favourite having pedigree at a weight that Mayweather has never fought at, being the best and biggest fighter he has ever fought, and having a very awkward, difficult style as well as being a serious puncher with an excellent chin At the very least the burden of proof is on the guy picking Mayweather. Any man, past and present. How do you think he wuold have got on with George Foreman?
He's agreeing with you but saying that modern fighters will never get respect compared to older fighters because of nostalgia.
because you still completely misunderstand my original post 1. i never said floyd could be srr 2. i don't care how old you are, when u look back at the ATGs (in any sport) even if they were before your time, and sometimes it's actually a stronger effect if it was before you time, they appear untouchable 3. i NEVER said floyd could beat srr 4. you an insert any fighter's name in instead of floyd, and all the above will hold true 5. in order for a modern day fighterto even compete with srr in fantasy match-ups they will most likely have to be 3 times better than him (just to compete)
So you're saying that if something that isn't true was none of us could see it? That's pretty circular. Nostalgia doesn't ALWAYS trump today. What it is, Mayweather insists upon putting himself above where he belongs head to head, so on internet forums he gets trounced. But he's a great fighter. I bet he could beat Antonio Esparragoza. I bet he could beat Aaron Pryor. Great fighters. Just because he can't be picked over the greatest doesn't make nostalgia somehow blinding.
when you talk top 3, in almost any sport, it's damn near impossible to crack and yes, you are somewhat right..those top spots are hard to crack because they are held by the best of the best but at the same time, they are often protected a little too much
For **** sake this is what I mean! I'm talking about pound for pound match ups! Turpin against Floyd at one weight with all factors taken into account. Say welterweight for example! I don't think Turpin could hit him in the ass with a handful of salt! Do I think Mayweather would beat Foreman in a pound for pound match up? Sure I do - I think he would ****in destroy him! You?
Look ok my point is this, when you mentioned nostalgia to me, it looks like your implying to me, that just because people are pickin Sugar Ray that it automactily nostalgia ( which does go on I admit), thats why I brought up the point about me being 18. also I did'nt used think Sugar Ray Robinson was the best until I watched more film of him near his peak and researched some more, so it took me a while so thats another point. but anyway I understand your point and you understand mine better so it' all cool :good
