As far as i can remember Kinchen lost a decision to Hearns , but he knocked Tommy down and had him hangin on for dear life .A tough ft for both guys .

Graziano was down for the count of ten, that is all that is required. He can be seen kicking his legs out after the ko ,he later said he could not feel them. That's a ko!

Carmen fought a helluva fight but I think Robinson won the first one as well. Basillio suprised everyone by doing as well as he did. Sugar Ray being the champion didn't deserve to lose his title. The Ali Rule wasn't invented yet I guess. "You got to take it from the champ."

I'd put Duran (at least the Duran who beat Leonard, that era) above both Hearns and Hagler...but not at middleweight.

I think Hagler did give too much respect to both Leonard and Duran. Had he treated each like he did Hearns he may have been the greatest imo.

As far as Robinson...I don't place any of those fighters up in that most high echelon except the lightweight Duran (and maybe....don't get mad folks)………...

    Ali.

I remember watching the highlights of that fight, Fergy. A real close fight that could have gone either way on the scorecard but the real controversy was that Kinchen after the fight was found to tested positive for some brand of strong painkillers which in hindsight made sense because it did seem remarkable how Kinchen was able to stand to up to Hearns hardest shots throughout the 12 rounds and never look really hurt even though his face was all bruised and swollen at the end of the fight. The thinking was that the painkillers dulled his feelings from the impact of the punches though they were still causing physical damage but maybe because Hearns got the decision, the result was allowed to stand? I can’t really remember if that was the case or not as it does seem so long ago now.

Yes, Robinson at anything like his best would stop Duran, at middleweight or at welterweight, if he was going for it.

Hearns fought world class elite fighters who are still elite by today's standards. Robinson fought guys who were so bad that by today's standards would be considered amateurs.

So bad by today's standards? What led you to form that opinion?

I should say this. since I remember that time. I think Kinchen tested positive for lidocaine, but it has been 30 years so my memory could be wrong. I have not heard much about it, and I don't know in what form or amount he took, or how that would help him absorb a punch. He did take great punches from Hearns. Tommy moved up and down too much in those years. I think had he stayed at the divisions more and not gone up and down he would have started to score more knockouts and absorb better. I don't know why he had to keep moving up and down like it was a game. That is dangerous. He went from 160 March 1986, to 154 in June,, then back to 160 in October. in March 1987 light heavyweight, then in October back to middleweight middleweight, June 88 middleweight then Nov. against Kinchen up to168.. constant up and down. Very irresponsible for Steward in a way. 6 up and down in weights in a little over 2 years 21 pounds apart.

The colorful trunks are a nice touch. Some of them lift weights more than they fight. So I guess they look better.

I think Robi would struggle a lot more to stop Duran at welter, he was so hard to hit v Leonard and Palomino, I feel Leonard would have caught Robi more than he caught Duran because Robi was open to counter jabs, he ate a lot of jabs v La Motta before stopping him in their final bout.

You think LaMotta, Basiliio, Turpin and Gavilan were like today`s amateurs?! Have you watched film studies on these guys? WTF?
