So in your world ATG are dominated by Heavyweights . . . hahahaha! man the **** I hear on these boards. ATG is the full package both quantitative (record) and qualitative (p4p). Like I said the GOAT in boxing is not based on size. How better to judge skill over time but with your resume? But the most important thing is the skill! SRR is considered the GOAT by many because he is considered the most complete fighter ever . . . not the biggest fighter ever

I am not saying that SRR wasn't more skilled but Ali had greater accomplishments.

I am not even gonna get in to it any further. if you where to poll all of the top boxing experts and scribes I doubt one would rank Ali over SRR. Ali more than likely makes the top ten SRR is number 3 at the lowest in ATG rankings.

Are you talking about p4p legacy status?

I'm pretty sure even Ali doesn't think he was greater than Robinson.

That "I'm the greatest" statement strictly applied to heavyweights (and even there, hi, Louis, :hi:)

The only person who claims to be better than SRR is PBF...and he only does ti as part of his "villain" role to sell PPVs and obviously doesn't actually believe it...

The diffrence is though Ali idolized SRR the Jordan quote was more of a respect thing ..But then again Larry laid it up like a real man ! No fancy shmancy dunking from Bird :hey

It's not a dumb argument because I took it back to the "roots" of why boxing was created in the first place. It was to see who was the "best."

Not who was the best little guy, who was the best girl fighter which if you want to start to say who was the best P4P, it would only be fair to bring in the girls as well... who was the best this or that...but who was the overall best. Just like it was created as a weapon for soldiers to use for warfare where there are no weight classes. The Greeks did it of that reason: It's about who is the best in Nature.

People like to hide behind this "sport" b.s. and at the same time you have guys like Floyd saying it is "legalized street-fighting" and so on. You can't have it both ways.

A lot of fighters have gotten into the sport because they wanted to protect themselves. A lot were bullied as kids and/or grew up in tough neighborhoods. They weren't joining the tennis club; they were joining the boxing club. And that is the root of what "boxing" was about.

I went "real" with things. I didn't Soccer-Mom this whole thing just because your kid wouldn't have been able to compete with the big boys. If your kid sucks compared, don't blame me. Blame Nature.

So, the question was who was #1 Greatest ATG...and I said ALI based on the roots of what boxing was about until people tried to even things out (for betting purposes most likely). Now if you ask me who was the greatest P4P, which is putting restrictions on things, then yes, like Ali said....SRR is.
